I thought the reason they couldn't use it in the UK was becuase of a German company who own 'Gmail' in Europe.... So I would have thought they wouldn't be able to use it in Spain either.

I don't think it was one company with a Europe-wide claim.
Rather separate companies in the UK and Germany who had already used the name

You're right. I knew I was partly right about the German company.

    ??????????

Mine is @gmail.com but I did sign up shortly after they started when it was all invites only.
But remember to use the full @googlemail, when you need to configure your email client or log into your account.
    At least I have to.

I have not done that and mine works fine.

Looks like I got a few rares for us in UK. :)
  • I got one quite early too through invite, and the capacity of my account now stands at 3 x greater than my first hard drive at 6Gb!

Yep I think most of mine are pre-lawsuit and so were actually registered as gmail. Some at beta stage and some shortly after.

You are currently using 9 MB (0%) of your 6428 MB.

    And I have 100 invites :)

If I invited someone would they get a gmail.com address?

Not if they were located in the UK. Read the link Red Rose linked too.

Invites are useless now as you can sign up without one.

Whoooooooooo, I just made one :)

Invited my OH gmail account (laughs) selected I was from USA and it worked.

So to the OP, give me some ideas on names and I will make you one.

It was hard to find a name not gone so a few ideas and flexibilty would be required.

Or just try it yourself saying you are from USA.

    I love it when I find a flaw in a plan. :)

New names get 100 invites anyway, so once you got one you can make as many as you like.
