  • You have an option to close the account on your accounts summary page. Its a drop down menu box under options.

I'm also thinking of opening an IceSave account for 6 months and txing out of the Sainsburys account.

Manic Saver - you are correct, how hard would it be for the tubes to send out an email?

I have done and they are discussion area's. I was hoping to see a table of best savings accounts like Kazza's ISA's one, or have I missed it

    Stavros,
you need to go to one of the comparison sites (Moneysupermarket, Moneyfacts, etc) that do that sort of thing as their bread & butter.

    Moneysupermarket
    http://www.moneysupermarket.com/savings/
    Moneyfacts
    http://www.moneyfacts.co.uk/savings/

    Hope that helps.

I'm seriously thinking of ditching sainsburys now. B & B 6 month fixed is 6.50%, what is the Icesave 6 month fixed?
Liquidity is when you look at your investment portfolio and **** your pants
  • Icesave 6-month fixed was 6.76% AER (6.65% Gross) on the 6th Feb - haven't checked it since then.

    Edit:
    Apparently it still is - that's a relief ... :D

The 6.65% Gross is for interest at term; monthly interest comes in at 6.56% Gross (and 6.76% AER).

  • Whilst I agree that the rates are now low, in fairness Sainsburys were always amongst the quickest to raise rates when the BOE rate went up.

You can't have it both ways, I guess.

That said, I do only have a couple of thousand in there now. I put the rest in NR's 6.9% bond so I'm fairly relaxed about it.......
  • Just for once, I seem to be in the right place at the right time. I, too, will be transferring all except the minimum £1 to probably the IceSave product.

Do those work out to provide similar amounts of interest in the end?

Also, WEST BROMWICH BUILDING SOCIETY - E Bond 12 matures on 31/08/08. Its got a rate of AER 6.85% 6.75% gross.
  • They changed the rate yesterday - it was stated on the site once you logged in, but they hadn't updated the front page - I see they have now. Time to reshuffle the finances methinks :( Just going to keep a few pounds in it.

If you open another account and close the original one, is a whole new account set up i.e. new account number and all the paperwork that goes with it?
Noobie (not so :D) trying to make loads a dosh - please bear with all my questions  Thanks :D

  • Ive closed the internet saver account a few weeks ago online. I also have an instant access account with them, there was a 7p balance in there which I have transferred out but I didnt see an option to close the account online.

    Hi,

I've had money in the Sainsburys account for a while and also just noticed the drop. I'm currently looking at the ICICI Bank account which has a rate of 6.41% - anyone got an account with them?

The Icesave 6months fixed account means you cant withdraw any of the money for 6 months right? I need a bit more flexibility than that really just in case which is why I am looking at the ICICI one, unless anyone can suggest a good alternative.

    Cheers!
