Don't forget you only tend to hear from the people that HAVE won something! There are plenty who don't win a thing for ages ...

I've been comping for 3 weeks and have been lucky enough to win 2 x box sets of DVD's (good ones), so keep trying ... a win could be just around the corner!

  • Try local comps from your local paper.

Less entrants than a web based comp(Usually) so more chance of winning.

  • I've been comping on and off for about a year but i always enter This Morning and Metro, i've won a few little things and then this week i won £200 off the metro sudoku, thats inspired me to keep at it.

I only really enter for things i would like but i know a lot of people on here enter everything going

  • I've only been comping since November, but you can see by looking at my signature that I've already won quite a lot this year.

In just the two months of last year that I was comping (ie November & December) I won £235 worth of stuff!!

Keep at it - the wins do come... eventually!

  • I am new to these forums and have only started entering the competitions recently.

I was wondering whether opting out of the mailing lists/newsletters, etc would it in anyway have any effect in winning? Since the majority of these comps, are looking to increase their readership.

If any big prize and regular winners could add their thoughts, that would be appreciated, thanks.

  • We have had a few discussion about the opting in or out, by law you can't be restricted from winning by opting out of mailings and lots and lots of people have won on sites they opted out of mailings.

No doubt there are some smaller sites who just run the odd competition who may act illegally, but to be honest I don't think it is worth the massive amount of spam to tick yes to everything just to be in with a chance to win competitions from those few sites. My advice is to tick no mailing etc whenever you actually don't want it!

Some comps require you sign up for a newsletter, but you can always unsubscribe later. Some people keep records so they remember to unsubscribe, but that has always been too much like work for me!
