I tried setting the IP settings to manual on the laptops. I can do that. I think I need to set the Hub to fixed IP addresses then.

Ive had similar problems of late with my Orange Livebox. Firmware updates have caused all sorts of problems, from low connection speeds to no service at all..
Thankfully now I have reverted back to my old trusty NetGear router, I can update the firmware when I want to now, and now have a stable service, with better speeds than anything I ever recieved on the Livebox.
My advice would be to ditch the Home Hub and get your own third party router.
Although Orange threw a massive wobbly when I told them, I do believe these company's have some sort of monitoring service they impliment on their own equipment so they can adjust your service ACCORDINGLY.....

I was never understood why my father went for the home hub. I think he was blinded by the advertising. Simply plugging a VOIP phone into the previous Netgear hub would have given the same result.

If your using the Net to call just friends and family, Skype and Tesco do VoIP, (not sure of any others).
Both can be plugged straight into your USB slot so it does'nt matter what router your using...
    Or Internet Service Provider...
The VoIP phones are realy cheap aswell, and they come with setup disks, so there's not much to configure.

Just an update. I was talking to a friend last night who had had exactly the same problem. He fixed it by removing all wireless connection software apart from the windows (aka "zero config") standard software.

I've just done this and the wireless is now working from the problem laptop. I'm just going to restart it to check that it isn't a one off.
