I just destroy everything, so that the local council jobsworths who snoop about the bins can't [strike]fine[/strike]tax me £30 for a sheet of A4 with my name on it on the pavement after their own binmen leave a mess.

I'm not sure it's that big of a difference. Everyone has their own effort to risk ratio. There's probably a diminishing returns rule to it where the more effort you put into it you start getting only little extra security in return and affecting a very small risk aversion. Where people draw the line is up to them. And remember being paranoid doesn't mean they are NOT out to get you.
