There is a big difference between being sensible and destroying private data and being paranoid.
I'm not sure it's that big of a difference. Everyone has their own effort to risk ratio. There's probably a diminishing returns rule to it where the more effort you put into it you start getting only little extra security in return and affecting a very small risk aversion. Where people draw the line is up to them. And remember being paranoid doesn't mean they are NOT out to get you.
