Licence for radio

Yep, the essence of the need for a TV license is that you have equipment capable of viewing/recording a TV broadcast as it is transmitted. For anything like the BBC iplayer that replays shows 'on demand', you don't need a license.0

The TV license thing gets argued about every other day on here.
You only need a TV license if you watch or record television as it's being broadcast.
Whether you watch it through a TV or a PC is irrelevant. If you record it then watch it later you need a license. If you download it or watch it online after it's aired, no license is needed.
Simply having equipment capable is nothing to do with it. USING the equipment to do so is everything. They say it's genetic, they say he can't help it, they say you can catch it - but sometimes you're born with it0

Yes and no. To be safe, it mustn't be tuned into anything that shows a piccy on screen, no matter how poor the quality.albertross wrote: »you only need a tv licence if you watch or record live TV broadcasts, end of story. Ownership of the equipment is irrelevant.
A good summary albeit long winded.

Now that the BBC new iPlayer makes it possible for anyone at home, office or via 3g to watch yesterday's BBC TV at a click of a mouse, this has become an interesting question.0

iplayer isn't live TV, so no licence neededEver get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0

I'd like to invent a BBC blocker, but even then I expect I would need a licence, ho hum, I love paying tax, the more names they come up for it the better. There are 10 types of people in the world; those who understand binary and those who don't...0

As someone has already said, this subject crops up time after time after.......................
The Law is quite simple - if you don't watch or record live TV broadcasts (from any source) then you don't need a licence.
You can own as many TVs as you want, tuned to as many stations as there are:- if you don't watch them live YOU DO NOT need a licence.
Parts of the TV Licensing website are either poorly worded or deliberately confusing !
I'm afraid the quote above is like saying, if you don't have a driving licence then don't sit in a car !0

The wording of the TV Licensing correspondence and their website is very specific.
But if you think you've found a loophole - tell it to the judge.:DNever interrupt your enemy when he is making a mistake.0

Not sure what point you are trying to make, loophole?Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0

I mean that whenever you use TV receiving equipment you receive TV transmissions - whether you want to or not. That's what they do.albertross wrote: »Not sure what point you are trying to make, loophole?
