We have upgraded our computer and would like to give our old one (bought only few yrs ago and cost £800) to a really good cause. We were watching some school kids in Africa (I think) who walked miles to go to a wee mud hut but they were all beautifully turned out and so eager to learn (bless) that we'd love it to go to a charity that would help kids like this. Any idea who we should try? thanks.

What a nice thought! my mum & her friends set up a regiseterd charity called the Levana Trust for kids in south africa after visiting them (they worked in schools) It really touched them as the kids were mostly looked after by single mums (a lot of the dads had been killed in the conflict) one young boy of 15 was up at 5am every day to sell strawberries for a few pence to send his little brothers & sisters to school. Anyway if you would be interested in finding out more or speaking to my mum just let me know, i can get hold of the charity number for you.0

You could always join your area Freecycle site. You can then request only charitable organization's apply. Best of luck0

Levana That sounds just the sort of place. If you could send on more details we'll take it from there. Thanks.0

You could always put it on Ebay as a charity auction. And then donate the cash to whatever charity you wish. Just a thought.Quotes in context only please.0

Just a word of warning about this, there have been a lot of these so called computers for Africa things going on, be careul many if the hard drives from these systems have been turning up in nigeria. Think your safe because its formated.. think again, I use software that can recover files from damged H/drives formated, alsorts.. If that fails I have even striped a hard drive down removed the plates and for a one off shot fitted them into a test unit I have, its not perfect but I have managed to recover files from even a fire damaged Hard drive.. It is safer to remove the H/D and sell it or give it away without one and destroy your own hard drives. After all you don't want to become debt free then find out some dirt bag has stolen your identity and run up £££££ in your name!
