One final point to bear in mind is that it would be worth being 'introduced' to Sky. Our friends recommended us and we each got £50 M&S vouchers as a thankyou. I think they usually have a similar enticing offer available.

Better still use a Cashback Site and get up to £150.Visit:

    No, they don't.

Well it can largely depend on what area you live in. But generally they only monitor your account if you download over 3 gigs between 6pm and 12am.

    Thats not totally correct.

They implement traffic management between 4-9pm & the amount you download is different for each package Virgin offer

Broadband M Customers - 300mb down / 150mb up (Reduced to 1mb speed if hitting allowance between 4-9pm)

Broadband L Customers - 800mb down / 325mb up (Reduced to 1mb speed if hitting allowance between 4-9pm)

Broadband XL Customers - 3gb down / 1250mb up (Reduced to 5mb speed if hitting allowance between 4-9pm).

My advice to people is avoid looking at what cash back deals you can get or whether 'quidco' will save you a few quid. Look at the reliability of the service & how good the customer service is because that matters a hell of a lot more than having a few quid back in your pocket!
  • I have been with sky a year now and it is time to cancel.

the tv service i dont really want, and the braodband package is very poor in my case, very slow conection compared with virign i had. and no end of problems which it, i had to phone the technical suport all the time, it just has been a nightmare for 12 months.

they also said i would get it free in the first place but i ended up paying for it, however I did get money of the price for them miss selling me the product.

this is my last time with sky now, getting freeview for the TV and will probaly look at virgin again for broadband as this is the best service I have had for internet so far.

orange also have some good deals on broadband but for the any time calls i have to change my phone into the modem or something, to get the anytime free calls, even though it is cheaper i cant be bothered swaping the phone everytime i want to make a call, I could buy another handset but i think i will stick to virgin this time. and its suposed to be a slower broadband with orange.

any other good broadband phone packages out there,
  • i've been with sky for two years nearly now and not had a single problem. some of the issues that have been expressed with sky here i think are related to their none LLU products. I currently have 16meg connection with sky and thats due to go up to 20meg.

that said, if you have a bt line going physically to the house with a master socket somewhere in your premises (even tho its not in use), then you shouldn't get charged for activating it. BT may ask for a deposit depending on the outcome of your credit check to join them. BT only charge for installation if they have to physcally come to your house and enable it - that my past experience anyways.
