First Direct 5-Yr 4.99% Fix Mortgage Pulled

  • I got a five year fixed deal with Halifax this time last year at 5.5% (I think the fee was in the realm of £800) and was feeling pretty pleased with myself at the time.

At the moment, though I give a little "groan" at each subsequent rate reduction, I still think I haven't done too badly committing to it.

But I have to say that everything I've read about FD regarding both the rate their offering and the service that lies behind it has been mighty impressive!

Something for me to think about in another four years time!

Try calling tonight after about 8pm they work till 10pm and they don't mind if you stay holding they just can't gaurantee someone can speak to you though.
  • I booked a time for them to call me and they did - 6-30pm last Thurs. Thereagain I've been a customer for 15 years (apart from 6 months with A&L for the cashback and interest free overdraft) so I'd expect that.

I also got someone at 9-45 last night when I wanted to ask them something... I would (and do) recommend them to anyone. If you need a full discussion, then allow half an hour for it.

I would be interested to see if that were actually true as usually once a deal has gone it's gone, because as Jem mentions above, fixed funds are usually finite.

Can you guys update this thread if it transpires that anyone who called about this rate and registered an inquiry does not get offered it ?

    Cheers

Unfortunately I didn't get offered it. I have still gone for the 5 year fix at the higher rate of 5.29%. £2K extra cost over the 5 years....................ouch.
