  • Can i suggest scrambled eggs and smoked salmon as part of the breakfast? it's a little classier than bacon and eggs.
  • Cashmere jumper from a large Tesco? They also sell some nice perfumes.

Alternatively you could buy her a nice iron or toaster that you will be wearing tomorrow :)
  • If money is no object and you want something really expensive quirky, etc, etc, I suggest you google at 24hr concierge company like 'quintessentially.com' or similar.

For a huge wad I'm sure they can rectify any potential school boy errors.
  • Yes! -Wonderful idea Gingernutmeg.
That is a seriously good plan. Anything bought from there can have a story constructed that I planned it all along. I hope They would set up early enough. Does anyone have any experience of that market?
I think a silver compact or antique glass or similar. any ideas?
Also is jewellery (notarng, obviously but necklace/bracelet) too commital? - that's not the impressionI want.
Gingernutmeg, Thanks a million - I owe you one

    Still, any more suggestions appreciated
  • Thank you again everyone, Edinburghlass, that is annother excellent idea. I appreciate it.
If I may be so bold, may I ask, as a woman, or any others out there, your impressions on the relative 'meanings' of perfume/antique jewellery/trinkets

    Thanks a million people

Quirky? How about giving her your last Rolo?

I did this last year, and put the Rolo, still in the wrapping, into a small box.

This was after seeing the silver 'last Rolo' beong sold online. My version was a lot cheaper, and more personal.

I also got to eat all of the other Rolos, so that was a bonus!
  • I've never been early on a Thursday, but at the weekend it's rammed. I'm not entirely sure what time the traders get there, but there are lots of shops around that area that'll be open earlyish. There's a Montezuma's chocolate shop, or, if you can't find what you want in the market there are loads of small independent shops that sell jewellery and gifts. If she's into modern, funky stuff, there's a Tatty Devine shop on Brick Lane that might have something, but it doesn't open 'till 11 ...

I don't think jewellery is commital, just be careful what size box you put it in - if you get a necklace, put it in a biggish box. Putting something in a little ring box could give someone the wrong idea entirely :) (My OH gave me a necklace for Valentine's day once, it was in a ring box and I nearly had a heart attack ;)) Maybe flowers, chocs and a 'cheaper' piece of jewellery, something fun rather than 'serious', might be better?
  • Still, any more suggestions appreciated

Blimey - you're cutting it fine.
Does a poem penned by your good-self count as quirky and orginal, yet not too commital?
This is one of mine, but all copyright waivered in true MSE spirit

    You're so Special

On a day just like any other
Someone like no other came along
    And made life into something
That would never be the same ...

    That's You
    That's my life

Thank you for being so wonderful
You mean the world to me!

Feel free to use it and hope that it might buy you some time.

    Good luck with your quest.

I didn't expect to get anything done today - and so far I haven't been disappointed.
  • It would be hard to procure a nice box/bow etc before breakfast time.
    Nice idea though.
Any suggestions for places open early? or even suggestions of a suitable gift?

  • As a woan I prefer my own taste in jewellery, do you know her well enough to know what she would like? :rotfl:

Tesco you could also get an MP3 player, Ipod, new phone....same with Boots you could probably find one open early.

A spa/pamper day at a nearby hotel, you could probably book online and download a voucher?

    A few helium balloons

A Radley purse or handbag, always popular

or if all else fails, a gift card :D
