Volkswagen Golf
Hi,
I'm looking to buy a new Volkswagen Golf Match 1.4 TSI, Shadow Blue. I have surfed net and looked on sites to save as much as possible as this is a large sum of money. I'm now slightly curious to see what other people have managed to save on this particular car.
I am planning to buy online as the prices are fairly good, for example UK New Cars can offer it at £14171.85 which is around £1500 off the RRP.
I have checked out other websites and it does not say much about this car. Is buying online Good/Bad? Reliable?
Thanks in advance!

i would get all these cheap online prices and take them to your local dealer, they should be able to at least match them.
never pay the RRP for a car,always haggle....work permit granted!0 -
I think a site called drive the deal is one people mention alot. Remember reading a story somewhere, probably here, of someone going to a dealer and haggling, but not getting the price down much - with the dealer commenting trying to put them off buying online. They bought online and had to go to the dealer who wouldn't price match the internet to collect the car.
Might be worth taking along the price to a dealers though to see if they'll match it?0 -
What area do you reside in lambo28? My friend is a salesman at VW...0

VW stopped taking new orders for the new Golf 1.4 TSi engine last week as they have a production overload...nearly 7000 orders stacked at the plant already for the engine and the UK market only has a production plan of 100 a week.
They are re-introducing the 1.6 fsi engine (which the 1.4 replaced!) with 2000 units almost ready, to ease the situation for the next couple of months on 'Match' derivative, to give dealers something to sell for the new March plates!
...and there is nothing wrong with using a business which has an internet site to buy the car through..some of us actually enable your whole dialogue and transaction to be direct with a normal main VW dealer anyway so you aren't 'buying on the internet' (understand the difference between a business which merely has a website to display prices - as most businesses do - and one which actually asks you to 'click to transact' which is only then 'buying on the internet'!), you just use us as the quote agent.
The important bit is to ensure the process enables you to trasnact totally with a VW dealer so your contract to purchase is with a dealer, not a third party re-seller.
So do use people like us to buy through too, not just a free way to give the business to someone else, else we won't be around that long!“Official Company Representative

Although I think VW group cars are in general very well made. We unfortunately can't buy them anymore. We live down a rough country lane and the ground clearance is just not suitable. A small point but one worth bearing in mind if you live in the country (not sure how they do with speed humps)0

Thanks for all the comments, I live in the Hampshire/Surrey area, so I guess the best action is to go to dealer with online quotes and see what happens?! How much discount do dealers usually give? ANY GOOD HAGGLING TIPS?0

1. If you intend on going to one dealer, make sure you take up plenty of his time, go on a test drive, ask lots of questions, let him work out a price THEN start haggling with online print outs...drive the deal/broadspeed etc - The longer he's spent with you, the more he'll not want you to walk away.
2. Ring ALL dealers within a a reasonable radius, tell them your ringing all the dealers to get the best deal and ask for their best price, saying you'll place a deposit for the best deal at the end of the day. You can then start playing them off against each other (if you can do this at the end of the month even better!) In doing this I recently saved over 10% off a Freelander 2.0 -
Cool, any more tips?0
