Because I'm sick of being part of a group berated by another group who don't even know the basics.

Speed limits are hardly a rarely used minor part of the law, are they?

Group when was I made part of a group?

I did not even know you till you started giving attitude to me cos I did not know something. If you were not so aggressive and rude on the forums prehaps people would not keep on at you so much, as after looking though other posts you have taken part in you manage to cause and argument and be aggresive in near enough everyone of them.

As for the comment "Speed limits are hardly a rarely used minor part of the law, are they?"

Come on you seem to be overlooking the fact its speed limits for a van not a car, when I passed my test I was never asked any questions about vans at all. If you would actually read my posts properly instead of simpley looking for bits you can quote and then throw further abuse, you would see thats what I am getting at that maybe the way things are done is wrong and to drive a van you should be tested more about vans.

I am just going to leave it at this now though as you are obvouisly only here to cause arguments and throw abuse round which I dont really want to be a part of. This forum is ment to be a place where people come to help each other and are friendly to each other.

Irrelevent. When I did my HGV tests, I wasn't asked anything about drivers hours rules but I am expected to know them.
• Hi there,

I am just started driving a transit connect for work, and been happily going at 60mph on single and 70mph on dual carrigeways!!!!!

This is a small van, but not car derived (like astra/corsa berlingo)
Not sure weather short wheelbase or long wheelbase.

SWB max gross is 2240kg and LWB max gross weight is 2340kg

Does the law mean if the actual weight is over 2 tonnes at the time or is it based on the max weight your van can take (even though at the time you could be 1800kg).

If its based on the max capable weight I will tell the others at work so they do not get fined.

Thanks TB

a speed camera cannot tell how much your vehicle weighs (yet) so it is based on how much the vehicle can carry i guess.

I passed me test 4 years ago and I knew vans had to go slower than cars I thought it was general knowledge. Guess I was wrong.

all new hgv's have digital tacho's link to the Speedo and are more accurate then your car Speedo, so if your doing 50mph in your cars what true speed are you doing hay not 50mph more like 46 to 48 mph depends on who makes your car and how old it is because they make car Speedo show more than what your doing about 10% more that’s why you have hgv’s up your back end through specs
same old same old thing car/van driver are all ways right never wrong and we have to live with that every day we work, moving the stuff you buy from food to the bricks that made your home
all we ever get is a slaging off from you lott , one day we mite get the respect we deserve until then yes we are HGV driver and we can take it
sorry for the spelling i am a think hgv driver
there or their, one day i might us the right one ,until then tuff

• Just wondered how many of you van drivers realise that the speed limit for a van on a single carriageway road is only 50mph?

On a dual carriageway and motorway only 60mph?

Just to let you know, the speed limit for 3.5tonne vehicles on a motorway is 70mph, not 60 mph. It's also 70mph for A roads with three lanes, apparently.

It's not the speed cameras that differentiate the vehicle sizes, the information about the Gross weight is held on the DVLA database, which is why people are now being ticketed at different speed limits from the same camera.

And as to the difference between the van speed limits for 'heavy' vans and 'car derived vans', the general rule of thumb is if it has less than a 1000kg payload it's a car-derived van. You can find this information in the manufactures' brochure.

I have two vehicles - almost identical. A mercedes vito dualiner (6 seats) and a mercedes viano (6 seats). Any thoughts !! ????

Try looking at your registration document. You may, if you are lucky, find that the Viano is a passenger vehicle and that the vito is a light commercial vehicle...in which case the viano can travel at car speed limits. I'd be interested to know the answer as I'm considering buying one of these soon.

As far as i am aware its treated as a van ie 50 on single, 60 on dual and 70 on the motorway.

It does worry me how many people don't know the law, i do tell all my new staff the rules and if they get done its down to them. It's the same on roundabouts how many people know the correct rules for using them, almost no one use them correctly.
