Van Drivers Beware!

Just wondered how many of you van drivers realise that the speed limit for a van on a single carriageway road is only 50mph?
On a dual carriageway and motorway only 60mph?
This is unless the van is car derived... i.e. Escort van, Astra van but anything like a Vivaro, Transit, Sprinter, etc has the speed limits as above!
Just got a speeding fine and 3 points for doing 61mph on a single carriageway road.......
Why aren't you made aware of this when you buy van..... living in Norfolk with no motorways and few dual carriageways this means I have two gears in my Vivaro that will never be used!!!
So much for green economical driving......

Yes I'm sure it is in the New Highway code but how many of us read the Highway code after we have passed our tests?
When you have been driving 30 years especially!!!!
Just a friendly warning......

I am guessing those gears are numbered 6 and 7?0 -
This has caught out a lot of drivers of the smaller Transit Connect, sized vehicles, who didn't know of this rule.
Also be aware that number plate recocgnition speed enforcement devices & vans DO know the category your van falls into, so don't rely on not being 'flashed' by cameras!!

Because the sales people wrongly assume that because you passed a driving test, you have a clue. After all, you passed a test which gives you entitlement to drive that class of vehicle.
Will you be posting about being overloaded next week? You are aware what the GVW and tare weight are aren't you?0 -

OMG I never knew that, there are loads of things with the law that they just make up and never give it any premotion so people are aware of these things.
Like you say if you passed you car test years ago and now this law exists how are you ment to know.0 -

err, I passed my test 30+ years ago and in those days all vans had the lower limits, it’s actually got less strict over the years0 -
Really, well it shows how naf our tests are for getting a licence then cos I passed my car theory and practical test about 8 years ago with only a couple of marks down on each and aced my motorbike theory and practical tests without 1 mark down in both, about 5 years ago and did not have a clue about this law myself.
I have even had 2 differnt jobs which I drove large vans alot of the day, 1 cos I was a Truck Tyre and Alloy wheel fitter, where I dove all over the country fitting alloy wheels to trucks, and the other was just tyre fitting where using a large van to get about was a big part of the job also.0
