Beware when starting a contract!

Hi,

I recieved a call from a company called 'the mobile phone company' located near Blackpool on Friday. They knew that my contract with Orange was due to end in the near future and I was offered a Nokia 6630, 500 mins and 100 texts on '3' for £15. They also offered to reimburse me for my first 3 bills as I was still on Orange and would cost to cancel. I agreed even though it wasn't my handset of choice!

Well the phone got here this morning but there was no inclusion of a reciept or contract details. I phoned '3' and was told I was on an 18 month contract at £30 a month. I then rang TMPC and this was confirmed. I am now cancelling under the 14 day cooling off period and writing a letter of complaint to TMPC for lying to me. Beware of silver tounged sales reps who cold call you like this, I certainly will in future.

Thanks

Matthew

    That is a sad story.
It might be worth you phoning three and asking them if you can get the same deal that I have just signed up for:
    Nokia 6630, 500 mins and 100 texts on '3' 18 month contract.
Phone and service free for the first month - 14 days to try and no charge to send back if I do not want to continue. Next 3 months £15 per month, next 15 months £30- per month but with an automatic cashback at month 15 of £360.

This equates to a cost of £90 for 500 mins + 100 texts a month for 19 months - approx £5 per month in otherwords.

This offer was direct from 3 and is probably as a result oif some website that I filled my details in.
They gave me a customer services number (oh no - 0870 !) that it might be worth calling to see if you can get the same offer - 0870 733 033 ( 0141 2048674 is suggested by saynoto0870)

Gotta be worth a try - Let me know how you get on
    To infinity and beyond!

Had a call from someone once and all they said was you're due for an upgrade, and I goes funny that I just upgraded the other week, he went a bit sheepish and went Ok then hope you like it, bye!

I'm just going to leave it for now as my contract is due for renewal in September. I will certainly be considering going back to 3 but on my own terms.

I have had several of these in the past. I think they just call people on the off chance they are entitled to an upgrade as I was told one day I was and the next I was told they had made a mistake!

Care with this as I think Mike has since been stung by a company posing as 3. Hope you dont mind me updating this Mike as I read your thread, hope you get sorted soon.
