EON/ Powergen customers - save money without switching alert!

I just checked two switching websites to see if my current deal with EON/ Powergen was still competitive. I'm on 'Dual Fuel Energy Online Extra Saver' with a monthly DD. I was mysitified to see that I could save around £120 with my existing company until I read the small print: there is a relatively new tariff called 'Energy Online Extra Saver 5' which means I'll save £156 without even switching companies. It's typical they don't bother to inform existing customers of new deals and I've complained - for what it's worth. I advise all existing EON customers to ring them and ask to be put on the cheapest possible deal immediately.

    How can you complain?

Its the free market and competition working. I bet they have tarrifs that arn't even publicised if you ask.
  • I think Eon has been very open about their tariffs.
This was the message on the homepage for several weeks, now a few clicks back:
"** The latest EnergyOnline Extra Saver prices are not applied retrospectively; current E.ON customers will need to switch to the latest version to get the latest prices.

(but I still left and went for a price fix to another ;) )

I phone EON up last night and they put me on the Extra Saver 5 plan which will work out cheaper

    Thanks
  • E-on has just quoted their prices to me by phone, and the prices they quoted were those I was paying back in November - that is WITHOUT the price increases just announced in the press!

jimnutt, what tariff are you on? Not all tariffs have changed. For example age concern and prepayment customers have had the price rises delayed until the 1st april. Are you on a fixed/capped tariff?

I am on their 'EnergyOnline Extra Saver Plan' which is apparently the same as their 'EnergySaver Plan 5' ( Gas 16.5/8.59p, Electricity 3.235/2.574p)
I have been on this since at least last November.

There are five versions of the Energy Online Extra Saver. They're all pretty much the same.

The prices for version 1-4 went up on the 8th feb. They bought out a new version 5 which was the same price as the other versions were before the price increase. Therefore, if you switch to version 5 you won't have a price increase. If you stay on the version you're on your prices have gone up.

I suggest you ring e.on and switch to version 5 as this is the new, tariff and is e.ons cheapest.
  • I also ran a check on Energy Helpline and found the Online Extra Saver Standing Charge Version 5 was cheapest for me for the year, but only by £26 for gas and electric so rang them yesterday and have been transferred onto the new tariff.

When I put my details into the comparison site (EnergyHelpline I think), the Energy Online Extra Saver Version 5 and Energy Online Extra Saver Standing Charge Version 5 were exactly the same price.

Many thanks - I have as you suggest and changed by tariff to version 5 on line on the e-on web site!

I just swapped over to version 5, I was on version 2. The 19% annual discount you get on your bill is still applied with the version 5 too, saved an extra £50 for a 2 minute phone call, not bad :rotfl:
