Yaris or Micra - Please help me choose......

  • My wife and I are considering swapping our two cars for one in the next month or so, I have a VW Golf and she has an old auto Micra. We were looking at either an auto VW Polo or an auto Yaris. I'm veering toward the Yaris, buy the 1.4 Spirit, not anything lower - plenty available as nearly new, do well in NCAP tests too. They also appear to have lots of repeat buyers (people who buy a Yaris replacement for a Yaris).

    So, I'd say Yaris.:T

Modern Nissan cars are basically Renaults. And as you know, cars can be either good or French :D
So the choice is quite easy.

But don't discard Daihatsu. They are very reliable and basically Toyota.

BTW, if you buy Yaris, don't go for multimode automatic. They are not reliable yet.

I agree with all of that.;)

    Gotta be the Yaris.

I work for independent Toyota specialists - but in saying that, we get all 'breeds' of cars in here. Plenty of Nissan Corsa's and Jazz's too - totally unbiased opinion from the guys here - honest, and they say the Yaris, no contest. :D I would too - mainly as I do all the billing.............. !!

We don't sell cars - so not looking for your custom!! :rotfl:

So there you go. On the expert analysis of MSE users it is the Yaris.

I would have thought the Jazz has to be in contention as well.

But when I try and choose a car I try not to get too hooked on the car but try and figure out which will be the best deal. Taking into account price, insurance, running costs and residual value etc

Take your time and hunt around the internet brokers, car supermarkets etc.

Just to throw another one into the mix have you looked at the Qashqai? MIL is getting one in March. Just checked and its only the bigger engines that have the choice of auto box. But nice car anyway.

    have fun.

    .

i think if it had been my personal choice the jazz would have taken 1st place , but in a straight choice between two , the yaris wins .

The yaris was the jdpower small car of the year for a couple of years in a row , not sure how it's doing these days though .

i think the honda is a bit dearer as well iirc , but probably worth it

  • Thanks so much for your thoughts so far......

    1. Honda Jazz? This was one of the first I considered but the mini MPV kind of shape put me off a bit. Also the new model is due out in the summer so I thought the values would bomb for the old shape after that.

    2. Would the buggy fit? With one of the seats flipped forward it definately will - but you're right, it won't if you have people in the back.

    3. Toyota BB(???) - never heard of this before BUT the looks do put me off. That said, I still like the Micra so can't really trust my tastes can I:o ?

    4. Sirion - never realised there was a link between Toyota and Daihatsu - I'll take a look, thanks.

    5. Movilogo - How do you know the MMT multimode is unreliable? This is the very thing that attracted me to the Yaris (and the 0% finance offer as well of course;) ). Really worried about this now:confused: .

    6. Qashqai (spelling???) this has speakers in the back door that stick out and mum would keeping hitting them on the way in and out - I know I did when I looked in the showroom - and it didn't half hurt:mad: .

So, the vote seems to be for the Yaris but now I'm worried about the multimode - so I'll do some more digging about some other suggestions and keep coming back for all your useful ideas.

I need to decide soon though because this dithering is taking over my life:o .

Please keep the ideas coming - although with all your suggestions comes more decision making and I'm not doing so well there am I?:rotfl:
