My kids all fall in the teenager group, I give them and my ohter half a gift certificate that I make myself each certificate has 12 things on it, they can be anything from a can of favourite deoderant,do a basket of ironing for them, to the price of a cinema ticket, they can collect one gift each month on producing the certificate (they have to be tidy and keep the certificate safe ;)so I have had years where by feb the oldest can't collect anything!)This also helps them spread there money if they're students and you get to give them a useful gift that you can spread the cost of.0

HELP !
I'm newly married and it's our first Christmas together - my wife wants me to get her a stocking full of little presents (this is besides the main gift). I've always bought her nice but expensive presents in the past, but we've just bought a house and paid for a wedding - I have a much tighter budget now.
Just as an amusing asside - she dropped hints that I could find a pretty Christmas stocking in Monsoon. So, I went to Monsoon and when I couldn't find one I asked the shop assistant; "Do you have any stockings for Christmas?" To which she replied, "Yes Sir, but I don't think we do them in your size, I'll go and check." Needless to say my face went crimson and I quietly left the shop, never to return again.
It turns out that the stocking my wife was refering to was in Accessorize !0 -
Another man get worried when a shop assistant makes a joke ::)
A stocking isn't meant to be expensive. My teenage (13 & 15) step daughters are going to get small gifts in theirs, ie, some chocolate, some make-up, a CD...that their Dad has downloaded off the internet and burnt onto CD for them (legall of course) etc... Just keep your eyes peeled for little things that she likes.
Or alternatively fill the stocking with a bottle of champers to celebrate your first Xmas together.
But don't forget the traditional orange in the toe of the stocking.
You could also try talking to her parents to see what they did for her as a kid...relive some of her old memories.
A stocking is meant to be fun...not expensive.Baby Year 1: Oh dear...on the move

l like the idea of a personalised craft activity book. Here's a couple of links which could be great for this. There's loads of crafts, colouring pages, cards and calenders.
You could also make up little craft resource packs to go with the printed instructions.

Hi Forklift
My Hubby & I have a £10 limit on Xmas Stockings for each other, in addition to our "proper" presents which we also have a spending limit on.
He fills my stocking with bubble bath (takes up lots of space!) nice soap, deodorant, a few Thorntans choccys or a selection pack, an "exotic" fruit instead of a orange (last year I got a Dragon fruit), pens, 99p ear-rings, soap (Sainsburys do nice "pure fruit" soaps for 99p), hair scruncies, knickers, pairs of tights, herbal tea bags, chocloate crossiants, I could go on! Basically about 10 things for around a pound each.
I must admit to being even cheaper & saving some of the freebies through out the year for his, I don't think he'll mind the map of the UK but what will he say to the snore pack??!! OK, I'm also adding Xmas soap & face cloths, note pads, chewing gum, shower gel, nail clippers & tweezers and a few sweets.
We greatly enjoy opening our stockings in bed on Christmas morning even though some people may think the gifts inside are somewhat hum-drum. Most likley they are things we would have to buy anyway but it's a fun way to start the day, doesn't cost much & the point of them bieng usable gifts is that the money isn't wasted
I'm sure we would make the gifs more risque but we always spend Xmas at my parents & they usually come in to watch us open our stockings, although I'm sure they would see the fun in us starting Christmas day with glow in the dark edible body paint I don't think it would be entirley appropriatePost Natal Depression is the worst part of giving birth:p
In England we have Mothering Sunday & Father Christmas, Mothers day & Santa Clause are American merchandising tricks:mad: Demonstrate pride in your heirtage by getting it right please people!0 -
This is my first time I've done this so bear with me, but the link for the colouring pages is brilliant. I have a niece and nephew who visit regularly and as I don't have any children they soon get bored. I can now keep them entertained with colouring as they love this. Brilliant!! ;D ;D ;DSnootchie Bootchies!0

Brilliant posts here Thanks to all ;D
I can't wait to make book floss and have a look on those craft sites. I too have an advent calender with 24 pockets and blanch every year when I try to fill it. Thanks for the great ideas. Also got the Hawkins Bazaar catalogue from another thread and it looks good.
I went to Sainsbury's on Tuesday and got a magic flannel at 30% off £1.30 and some clickit (lego craft product) reduced to £1.50. Lidl have been doing good craft stuff to which I have been squirreling away.
Merry Chri.... oh not yet!!!! ;D0 -
