Hi there
I was in a Fiat dealer last week looking at the 500 and the Panda. The salesman said that Fiat were specifically forbidding discounts in order to "protect the residual values". He said that they would be in trouble as a dealership if they processed a discounted order.
This is a stance that BMW have taken with the Mini and only time will tell if Fiat deviates from this view.
If you do manage a discount then I'd love to know how much and where from as I might be tempted; so good luck and go for it:T .

Don't expect much in the form of discounts on the 500. I was told there are waiting lists and cars with waiting lists rarely get discounted. If its as big a hit in this country as it has been on the continent, it will defintly hold its value like the Mini did.If you found my comment helpful, please click the 'Thanks' button below :T0

Give it 12 months, and like any Fiat, you will be able to beg them from anywhere for pennies, it is just another marketing ploy.
TBH you may as well buy the Panda if you really must have a Fiat.
We had the Beetle, that was nothing likr the original, then worst, the Mini that is the size of a Golf, now Fiat have jumped on the bandwagon.0 -

That's the exact same response I got from my local Fiat dealer about the discount, I figured If I can't get a discount I could at least try to get something thrown in for free, would probably be easier.0 -

How anyone who has had a beetle can give advice on what car to choose is beyond me.
OP, you've got the money, you've got your heart set on it, go for it. But others are right, don't expect much in the way of discount.
Personally I'm holding out for the cabby....

The used one on autotrader is more than a new one from what I can see unless I am missing something?
Anyway, I doubt that you will get a discount as fiat are keen to not discount this model, and people who already have a deposit paid slot are selling them on ebay at a premium.
You have a chance of getting something free thrown in, but dont expect much. Think Fiat are only importing 4500 units this year.
I know its what you really want, but have you considered the panda? Think its the same underneath, but much cheaper, will be discounted, and they are offering 0% finance deals etc.0 -
how did you get on? I love the look of these, and have a grande punto at the moment, that I need to keep till I have paid off, but then might get one of these if nothing else I like more has cropped up in the next couple of years.
As you currently own a Fiat, you may get a more favourable trade in price but otherwise, probably not much else.If you found my comment helpful, please click the 'Thanks' button below :T0 -
I'd hang on for an ex demo - I had the same situation in 1999 when I test drove (and fell madly in love with) a Toyota Corolla G6R - it's like the WRC homogolation car - anyhoo there were only 400 brought in and they wouldn;t budge an inch on the asking price. Suffice to say I bought it (and didn;t take my own advice) but 400 is way less to go at than 4500 a year.
145k miles later tho she's still going strong but alas OH says we need a new vehicle.
Suppose it's all down to affordability, if £1500 or so discount would make things a lot easier and the difference of food/hols or not, I'd wait0
