Price of electric heating?

Hi there,
New poster here, so sorry if any of my questions are stupid!
Am looking at houses to buy (1st time buyers) and 1 village I'm looking at has NO gas supply. A house I saw yesterday has electric radiators, what is the cost of these as opposed to oil burning system? The guy who has built the house said that it's cheaper and easier than using oil (he reckoned he used 1000 litres to heat his own house for 10 weeks!)
We are looking at another house in the same village and wondering whether it is worth it to change from their current oil system to an electric one?
So to sum up, how much is the electric system to run (3 bed semi) compared to oil and how much would it cost to install an electric system (if the cost makes it worthwhile!)
Sorry to waffle!
Thanks in advance for any help!

If you have a search through this forum you will find masses of posts about electrical heating systems; including some very misleading posts by salesmen.
Leaving out Heat Pumps, which are very expensive to buy and install, without doubt the cheapest form of electrical heating to run is night storage heating on an Economy 7 tariff.
Again looking through this electricity, and if you are home all day it can 'run out' of the heat and you need to top it up at expensive daytime rates.
However it is fairly cheap to install and the running costs are cheaper than oil - but not by a huge amount.
There are a lot of houses being built with electric radiators(not storage) that run on daytime electricity. These are the most expensive way to heat a property available. However be warned that there is a mass of misinformation about low running costs.
These systems put out no more heat for your money than any other electrical heating system.
Oil is expensive to install, but has big advantages in ease of use over storage heating.
Builders fit electric heating systems because they are cheap to install, and no other reason.
Ifthat house has oil heating - stick with it.0
