My apologies, I didn't notice that the thread had been bumped by a new user. I'll remove my comments.0 -
My Mum has moved into a corner plot and the kids were driving her daft. Every time the ball would bounce in the garden the collie would go nuts.
The Old Dear next door is profundly deaf but found the kids hanging around quite frightenning.
Mum's "ahem" solution was to play Sidney Devine from the player in the shed. She couldn't hear it when she was inside, neighbour couldn't hear it obviously and local Bobby thought it was so funny he radioed his mates to come around and listen.

I know it's 2 years old, but that is so funny!!!"I've fallen down a hole" - said in best Monty Python voice-over.0 -
i totally understand about your cars being hit i would be cross if it happened to mine however my son & his friends play football at a dead end(yes i am a guilty parent) in the street and one of the homeowners came to say he was worried about his car getting damaged so i told my son he can play there as long as there are no cars in the driveways (last thing i need is a bill for repair) but low and behold the man was back 2 days later to say that if a child enters his property even to ask for permission to get a stray ball back he will do them for tresspassing!! now i think this is a tad too much - i want my child to play in a safe area & am quite sure alot of adults done worse things than play football in the streets when they were kids!! this day & age there are drugs & drink about - playing football shouldn't be a crime:(0

I'm incredibly late at joing this. Only 3 years but it is such a sore subject for me that I simply must comment My parents have lived with this problem for over 30 years! It really annoys me when people come on here saying things like "Its only football!" and "Kids will be kids". We frequently end up with groups of 5-15 kids aged between 5-16 playing football outside our (not their) home. People that have never lived with this have absolutely no right to say that its just people winging. My parents lives have been made a misery through this and you always get the defensive parents saying "I want them where I can see them" and "they are just playing". As I said we have had a 30 year battle with various generations. The council have put up no ball signs, planted trees (that they have ripped down) and even put boulders on the green but that doesnt deter them. We pray for rain everyday and dread the light nights. My parents can't afford to move and why should they? I dont have kids so why should I sit in my own home where we can't open the windows because of the noise and listen to these kids so their parents can sit in peace in their own home. There are several large fields around where we live that would be ideal for playing but they can't be bothered to walk the short distance. We also cannot sit in our back garden as the ball hits the fence and again the noise and thudding of the football is horrendous. As I said before, if you havent been in this situation you really can't say we are just moaning. It quite literally makes your life a misery.0

I have had this conversation numerous times with neighbours and on forums. I dont mind children playing outside my door, I think it is good to see them enjoy themselves. I dont even mind them having a game of football if they keep the ball under control and dont treat my place as if it is a goalpost. I do object when they have a heavy football and they cant kick it high or hard enough and it bangs against our windows or the house. I have had to chase them sometimes. When my husband has spoken to some neighbours, he has got replies like 'You dont own this street' or 'i cant see a no ball games sign'. These very people have chased footballers from their own door and it really ires me that they take over a street themselves as if it is their own. I have never claimed ownership on a street but feel that I should be able to enjoy the comfort and privacy in my own home which both myself and my husband have worked hard to pay for.
I would say that the people whinging because their children are shouted at dont want the bother of having to bring their children out to a suitable place to play themselves and past experience with us has clearly demonstrated that they dont want it outside their own doors. I call these people totally selfish and think they have a total lack of consideration for people who also have a right to not like football.
And yes, I was once a child myself, I did upset neighbours at times and had to be chased but knew to go away when I was told to. Also, my mum would have killed me if she thought I was causing trouble. I have had to educate my son if he was doing something he shouldnt be doing so why should I have to put up with unruly behaviour from other people's children.0 -
Never minded the footy - I DO take exception when they absolutely are hammering the ball without consideration for anyone who might be nearby, and when it's going near cars and windows - that's when the line has to be drawn between kids needing to play and the rest of the world needing to be able to park their cars without fear they're going to come back to have them "improved" by a future Wayne Rooney.
Have had my car windscreen smashed in the past by street football - they weren't even playing with a ball but were kicking stones about... unfortunately for them, I taught several kids in the street, who all promptly knocked on my front door to liberally grass up the culprit within a matter of minutes! Of course nowt was ever done, no apologies were ever made and muggins here was down the cost of a new car windscreen (and faff of having to trek halfway around the area to find one in stock)... that's not on or fair and that's when people start to get really wound up by the football situation and the no ball games signs get appealled for.
We'll have an entire summer of the ball being hoofed against our back fence from the kids out back (it's not so much the bang-bang-bang that annoys me - it's when we enter hour number 5 of the match commentary they shout to go along with it)... fair play - if they screw up a shot and it goes over into our garden - they're very unlikely to get it back intact if our dog gets to the ball before I do - and I'm not keeping the dog inside all summer to save a football that shouldn't be in my back garden in the first place.Little miracle born April 2012, 33 weeks gestation and a little toughie!0
