i've sold a cd and a book. the book i sold i've sold before, but just realised that the first time i sold it i'd mistaken it for another copy that should have been a bit cheaper.but i got a mail thanking me for it.

First of all thank you Mike I think who posted about the Haynes Manual - my old Fiesta one is on there for £7.00 and to think I would have tossed it in the bin.
OK folks I am about to share with you my Blue Peter type packaging. I am soon to have a wooden floor fitted so to kill two birds with one stone, I purchased a roll of that foamy stuff you have to put underneath it. I got a 10 metre roll in B&Q for £10.00 - it is £14.99 in Homebase.
I have purchased 25 manilla envelopes for £1.17 in Sainsburys economy range.
My idea is to cut the foamy stuff to place right around book and at sides, bottom and top, staple around to secure (economy stapler and staples - courtesy of Morrisons
This foamy stuff is light and the envelopes are strong. It is a bit of a faddle cutting the foam and stapling, but it is one heck of a lot cheaper than bubble wrap. I have yet to source cheap enough jiffy bags.
While we are on the subject, do you pay a delivery charge also when you buy them mail order???Grocery Challenge £139/240 until 31/01

it wasn't this mike that listed larmy16, although i've got 4 to list
i like the idea of the foam, i've got some left over from a useless laminated floor fitterand if his idea of 'cheap' is anything to go by, yours is a cheap way to package. can't see anything wrong as long as it protects the book. but i'd drop the staples idea. i've received books that are stapled and far prefer them with a bit of clear sellotape, but that's just me
don't get too carried away though. when my missus helps me she wraps them in lilac acid free paper, bubble wrap, and uses a mail lite, a big one! :silenced: she'll be putting bows and ribbons on them if i'm not careful
i've no idea about the last question larmy16.
but while i'm posting, i just thought i'd ask if you all check your listings daily. i've just checked mine and because some before me have sold, i've upped the price. conversly, i've lowered the price. (i spell better and use caps by the way, just a wrist problem stops me doing it in posts.)
but i had another strange one while i was looking.
a book i've had listed that amazon don't have in stock went down to one book - mine, yet amazon said there's a buyer waiting to buy. do you think they might be out of the uk?
two more books gone since i last updated. it's hard work this amazon is0 -
Poundland is good for small quantities of Jiffy bags. You get 8 of a suitable size for DVDs, smallish paperbacks etc. for £1, or 4 bigger ones (about A4 I think).0

Dont forget my tip about getting bubble wrap from the supermarket.
In tescos the bags of apples sometimes have sheets inbetween and also some of the organic apples have some as well.
I use this and a strong brown envelope, never had a problem.

It is hard work this Amazon lark! I have never been in the situation you have with a buyer waiting, I am sure AT will come along to advise. We do not have a good Poundland where I live. I visited yesterday and they had tiny ones suitable for cd size but they were 33p each so not that cheap.
I wish I had the time to check the listings daily, and had one sale this week I should have kept a closer eye on. A book on Tarot which for some reason I had listed at £1.75 when the next one up was £5.93! I just about was even after paying postage. Oh well.
I will continue my search for jiffy bags. I do like to wrap mine as parcels anyway, but when you have quite a few to post and are in a hurry it is nice to be able to use j bags occasionally.
Also the Post Offices around here have long queues at the moment, nightmare when you are doing Amazon in your lunch hour!!! :rudolf:Grocery Challenge £139/240 until 31/01

Hi Mike.
I raised this question a while back as I've got a CD in the same situation.
The buyer waiting specifies a maximum price they want to pay and when the price of your book comes down below that, Amazon will email them to say the item that they wanted is available.
Apparently it is also common for these so-called "buyers waiting" to have found the item elsewhere, but forgotten to cancel the alert, so even if you drop the price there's obviously no guarantee that they will bite.
Oh and I think it was also mentioned to beware lowering prices for buyers waiting, as some rival marketplace sellers put in requests for sought after items with a silly max price, snap it up and then resell for profit!0 -
do people here also list videos/dvds?smile --- it makes people wonder what you are up to....
