jaybee - give it a try with small things until you get confident. I have sold my car and mums car, tents, camping gear, clothes that ds has outgrown etc. It is suprising how much stuff sells for. As long as you are honest nothing can bite you on the bum! I accept paypal for small things but as they get more expensive so do the charges so then it is cheque, postal order or cash. Just do not post until the cheque has cleared. The best bargains are priceless!!!!!!!!!! :T :T :T0

THere is also a new site for selling books which seems very good. The mother of the man who created it is in my competition group and we are all using it. THere are no fee's but thats probably counterbalanced by the fact that its not widely known about yet. THe site is https://www.listbooks.co.uk and I hope I havent violated any rules by posting. I am currently listing a lot of books on amazon and the ones which wont sell for much, I am putting those on this site to see if they sell well.:heart2:I have a child with autism.:heart2:0

What can i do about my Hard back books?
I've looked at Amazon and Ebay to sell them but because they're quite popular thay are really cheap.
They're all or mostly all Stephen King and i payed at least £10 for each one.
Don't really want to get rid of them but we need the space
Also, is it true that you can sell your / your childrens old clothes on e-bay?
i've got a few designer tops/bottoms that i haven't really worn and a couple with the tags still on, would they sell?0 -
I have sold about 20 books on Amazon; the ones that sell best for me are indeed textbooks, or business books- basically specialised stuff. Having said that I have sold a few novels; if I can undercut the other sellers I tend to list the book since there's no charge if it doesn't sell. My best tip is to always search by the ISBN number, it saves loads of time and ensures that your listing is accurate. In my experience it's pretty hard to sell a (factual) book if it's not the latest edition, check that there isn't an updated edition of the book, and price accordingly if there is. I am always totally honest about the condition of the books I sell and have always had five star feedback- except from one buyer whose card was declined by Amazon, but then left me one star and complained that the book hadn't arrived. When I contacted Amazon customer services to complain they agreed that I shouldn't have sent out the book, but still refused to remove the feedback:mad:.0

Hi Clumpster - I'm afraid that you are correct about the value of your hardback books, as you say they very popular and that means there are so many on offer and the value of the book plummets as soon as it's bought. They will sell at a car boot sale for around £1-2 each if that's any use to you.
For your clothes - you go to the ebay 'search' facility to look for clothes that are similar to the ones you need to sell and see what the prices are likely to be (look at 'completed auctions' to see what they actually sold for) if you do decide to sell this post of mine on ebay selling might help you get started0 -
Thanks for that AT i'll put them on the car boot on the Bank Holiday, there's a big one near us.0

This looks a nice little site and as you say ideal for posting books that won't sell for much elsewhere. I have loads of books which I will get round to selling after the summer. I also have acess to thousands of titles from our second hand church book stall.Do I add an allowance for packaging materials into the postage costs or not? Please post back and let us know how you get on using this site.Life's a beach! Take your shoes off and feel the sand between your toes.0 -
Hi,
There's a site called https://www.greenmetropolis.com
They supposedly charge £3.75 including p&p for standard paperbacks, of which you get £3. You can charge more for hardbacks I think.
5p of their share goes to the Woodland Trust.
Not used it yet, but it is another option. People can have a wishlist of books and be emailed when the book they want is offered.
So probably like the site mentioned earlier it would be useful if someone whose used it could post some feedback.

When I sell on AMAZON I normally coincide it with selling things on EBAY or elsewhere, Amazon rules say you must post withing a certain number of days (I think 2 working days), so you can minimise trips to the post office if you have sales for both at the same time, very important if you're short of time or the post office isn't handy and you need to pay for petrol. When the EBAY sales are finished or when AMAZON slows down I put AMAZON 'on holiday' until my next batch of sales on EBAY or until I've got enough books/CD's/DVD's to make it worth while. I use them for clutter clearance rather than as a trader.0 -
I put books on greenmetropolis and Amazon concurrently - made over £100 on Amazon and £6 on GM...
Maybe when there are more customers it'll pick up, but it is worth listing books on more than one site, as long as you remember to pull the listings when one sells.0
