Holiday in April

Hi All,
We are looking to go on holiday for a couple of weeks in April and need ideas where to go. We are going with our 2 kids (6 and 3) and my parents. We want somewhere that will be hot, with a beach, kids disco in evening and warm enough to swim in the pool. We went to the Canaries a couple of years ago at Easter and it was lovely, but the pools were freezing!
The travel agent suggested Turkey - has anyone had experience at that time of year? We're happy to go further afield, but have a budget of around 3k.
Thanks in advance. xx

Hi I don't know if this site might help you.
Turkey is a lovely place to go and should be warming up nicely especially towards the end of April, but I don't think the pools will be very warm They were certainly cold I (though not unbearable) in October!

PS Turkey isn't particularly expensive either, especially if you book with travel republic or greatlatedeals etc.
Some innoculations are advisable though, so if you were thinking of going you need to be getting them soon. All free ones!:wave:0 -
Thanks for that.
We'd be looking at going in the first couple of weeks of April. What sort of temperatures would we be looking at? Would it be as nice as the Canaries?Make £10 a day in January 2014 - £39.68 / £3100 -
Turkey is lovely, although the sea might be a little cold at that time of year. The Turks adore children too. :A
If you don't fancy Turkey, you might want to consider Egypt - you will have guaranteed sunshine, the sea will be warm and the fish have to be seen to be believed - and you don't even have to go snorkelling to see them, they usually swim right up to you when you go paddling. I'm going back there myself in May.
You can get some fantastic deals on www.teletextholidays.co.uk. It might be worth having a look.
Hope you have a great time!! :j0 -

I like the idea of Egypt, but have been worried about the security side of it. Are you limited to staying within the complex of the hotel?Make £10 a day in January 2014 - £39.68 / £3100 -
TBH there's no telling! In high summer Turkey gets far hotter than the Canary Islands AFAIK. You don't mention which island you went to. It's different from one resort to another too. You might expect something in the region of 20-22C, so it's not boiling hot and it's low season for Turkey
Like DenmarkDen says, the Turks love children and would make a tremendous fuss of them. Also I believe it's fairly safe (not as much bag snatching as Tenerife for example! It's 10+ years since I was there and it was one of the first things the reps warned us about  ).
Have a look at the site I mentioned previously, it should help you choose where to go and give you inspiration:wave:0 -

My ultimate favourite is greece, yet anoyingly most of the islands do not start up charter flights and prep for tourism til may, even though the weather can be lovely and warm (can be!) It is greek easter at the end of april and they are mad about easter it is widely celebrated with lovely traditions....
I am looking for a hol in april also and crete seems to be the exception, with charter flights starting on 15th april with many tour companies, it will be quiet, but a great time to bag a 4 or 5 star accom for prices that may be out of budget in the high season.... giving option of facilities inc' indoor pools in case of temperatures not quite reaching sunbathing weather......
As the above post has discovered, freedom direct have some good deals.0 -
Hi,
I've been to the Red Sea in Egypt twice now and had no problems with the security there. Neither did I stay on hotel premises all the time either. The taxi drivers do try to rip you off if they think you are gullible enough. Just agree a price with them before you get in the car and make sure the price is for the journey, not per passenger!
I booked my husband and myself into Sharm for a week's half board at a 5* (in reality, probably a 4*) hotel this May for £700 thru teletext holidays. Children are usually very well catered for. Take lots of high factor sun screen with you, it's very expensive in the shops out there.
Snorkelling and diving has to be a must if you go to the red sea. It's absolutely incredible!
Hope you get a bargain and have a great time wherever you choose!0
