Husband's abroad for 10 days, so thought I'd check his Egg Money Manager etc. Surprised to see that the Egg Card on its anniversary stage (3rd month) has been repaid by a mysterious £6,000 BT from somewhere!!!! All his current cards have been ticking over for some time and there is only one new one awaiting his return to be activated. Obviously I can't ring them and check with them what's happened and wil have to wait for his return.

Has it happened to anyone before? Presumably someone else has done a BT to the wrong account and the mistake will eventually be spotted and our prize for now will vanish the same way it came.

Cor lucky old you. I wish the fairies would visit me.

Keep us posted as to what happens....maybe a computer glitch has cleared all your debts; hurrah. Anyhoo, let us know, it's an inriguing post.

Sorry, I'm a bit of a grumble weed today, no offence intended ... well it might be, but I'll be sorry.

    Mary,

If it is a mistake, and Egg takes back the credit - thus putting you into a fresh debit position there is a danger that you will lose your remaining anniversary months. It might be a good idea to secure message Egg about the error so that you get in writing some assurance about this.

They ought to thank you and possibly Egg-stend the deal a couple of months!! [sorry, bad pun]

Is it possible that on the card that you mention as awaiting activation, that a balance transfer was requested on the initial application form?

Have you thought about asking your husband ? If he handles the credit cards, it might be that he has requested a BT on an application form which has since been carried out. I'd do that before contacting Egg. If it turns out that this is a mistaken BT by someone else, do not assume that it is a free gift to you. It will not be your money.

Yes, he did request a BT on the application form, but I would be surprised if it passed through before he had rung up to activate the card?

He's on the move in China until next Sunday, so there's not much that can be done until then. We won't be touching the ill-gotten gain, tempting as it might be.

Thanks Milarky for pointing out the potential difficulty of a fresh debit situation.

Clariman, I did speak to hubby today and told him about it. I do the organising of credit cards, he just signs where I tell him to, so it will be nothing he has initiated on his own! He will check with Capital One before we contact Egg secure messaging.

Will have to wait until Sunday/Monday to clarify the situation.

They will do the BT before the card is activated, especially as it was requested on the application form.

I have known the balance transfer to be done before the card even arrived ,so I would think this is the answer.

In my experience it's very common for BT's to be processed before the card/pin etc have been sent out and the card activated.

Looks like you might have lost 6-8 weeks of stoozing profit. With hindsight, it might have been better to apply for an Egg blue beforehand and BT from this, using it as a "mule", bearing in mind your very early application for the new card (and it's rather swiftly processed BT).

Well, Yorkshire Boy, it sounds very likely you could be right. Never knowing quite what figure to put down as the balance transfer you would like to make on an application form - we have two or three times put down too high a figure, then the CC companies write and tell you that they could not transfer such a limit - and basically would you like to revise the figure etc. So not wanting to appear too greedy this time, we put down a figure of £6K, thinking that would be about middle of the road. Just husband's luck, if this is one and the same company which has already done the BT, before he's activated the card, as they have given him a limit of £8K. Seems it's difficult to get it right all the time.

We've had between us 20 cards over the last 15 months and not so far
have we met any transfers being done early.

Unfortunately this seems to have knocked 15 weeks stoozing profit off the Egg Green Anniversary. I suppose it could have been worse. He still has £9K left stoozed on the Egg Green card. I had in my arsenal an Egg Blue, for using as mule during my anniversary which I am currently on right now, as we tend to run in tandem. However, I hadn't got round to an Egg Blue for him.
    How wonderful hindsight is!

Hi Mary, I agree you never know what to put down on the BT request. However, and providing BT's don't "have" to be put on the application form to qualify for the fee-free deal, I think maybe it's best just to write down, for example, "approx £10K but will notify exact figures, and from which cards, when I'm notified of my credit limit". What do you think?

Re the lost stoozing time, and the very early BT, I know it smarts a bit but, if we didn't make mistakes we wouldn't learn anything now, would we? Your experience will certainly help others, and for that I thank you for posting it.

    All the best.
