i agree the service is failing.
with the recent strikes the union failed miserably to inform the public what the strikes were about.
everyone grasped onto the pay side of things and not the service issues.

my office is on the verge of meltdown.
    massive staff shortages.
any new staff are part timers who in general are doing the job until they get a 'proper' job,or have other jobs so only want finished asap to get to the next job.
my head manager is now off with stress after the debacle that was xmas in our office.
worst in history going by the guys with 30+ years service

i would love to say it will improve but i doubt it.
rm have draughted in more managers for my office and we are getting examined on everything.
eg i left the office early on saturday(as i always do) as i come back and help on the door for collections.on returning i got pulled aside for leaving early and threatened with conduct code.
coming back helps them,i finish no earlier than i would on my duty.
also anybody phoing in sick is 'asked' n for an interview in the 1st couple of days and generally phoned every day.

none of the managers(middle or senior) seem overly interested in the service as a whole and generally pay lip service to any issues/complaints

    > Unfortunately, in the past month, two out of three signed for parcels have "dissappeared" and cannot be tracked online.<

100% agree. In the last few month I (stupidly) sent a laptop computer by parcelfarce, dropping it at the local Post Office. Parcelfarce were never alerted to the pickup - the PO staff simply stole the laptop:mad:

Last week I sent a packet 1st class signed for - the online tracker tracker today shows no delivery info.

Customer service is sick joke, they 'pretend' that Parcelforce, RM and PO counters are totally different organisations and pass you around on the WORST telephone system ever - 'press 99 to be laughed at and hear a pre-recorded message to f***-off'

PO = thieves, that plus the increased Ebay fees means I'll be giving up as a private seller. It's simply become too much grief to make a few ££

Firstly, they dont pretend anything, they are 3 seperate companies...they were once, until the government decided that wasn't a good idea!

As for the online tracker, i have mentioned this before that yes, i agree it takes longer than it should but the reason for that will be sorted out before the end of this year, all posties will have hand held terminals for recipients to sign, at the mo, its all paper based and then input by ...shock horror....humans

and also to say that ALL the post office staff (and as you seem to insist that they are all the same company, RM and PF staff) are all thieves, is a bit ott.

If you really feel that way, why not exercise your right to shop elsewhere?

This thread merely highlights why I no longer use recorded for anything apart from company documents. My failure rate for recorded was much higher than that for standard post.

Also, I begrudge paying extra to the RM to do what standard mail does anyway. So if I send say 100 packages a month it would cost me £70 to send them all recorded, instead I use standard mail, I rarely have any losses and I am £70 a month better off.

  • Thanks for the advice and info, at least I'm not alone, small comfort. The claim form says apply after 25 working days so I guess I wait till then to avoid it being sent back to me and disappearing in the process.

I read somewhere but I can't find it anymore, that you can't send Recorded/Signed for mail to a PO Box address as there is noone to sign for it ? Is this true, does someone know ? Thanks for any help.

lol well an rm po biox varies.
mny are just po box's at the delivery office which are delivered daily to the po box holders address.
many big businesses do it so they are not giving out their address and it means they can move offices without reprinting addresses etc
(also why many people end up at my office looking for their banks head office after putting the postcode in the sat nav;)
if the po box is set for collection then a signature will be obtained on collection.
until then the track and trace will show its held at their po box
  • The PO service seems to have deteriorated badly over the last few weeks. I have had 3 items reported as missing within the last few days and I always take them to a PO and obtain a certificate. If you make a claim they routinely lose the documents and then turn down the claim ie 'it contained valuables'. As amcluesent said, combined with the high cost of Ebay now, it really isn't worth the effort!
