Lasagne - freezing and defrosting questions

Is it possible to heat a portion of lasagne from frozen in the microwave? If so how long for? I was wanting to have some in the freezer as 'emergency dinners' so we wouldn't resort to takeaway, so would like to miss out the take out night before and defrost stage.0

If it is properly cooked/baked before hand then I would say yes - I havent dont it for a long long time with lasagne (mental note to make somee lasagne as soon as there is room in my freezer) but I often do it with things like chilli, spag bol and mice and tattiesEmma

It is possible, but can be a bit tricky. Unlike many other dishes lasagne can't be stirred half way through reheating so it can be piping hot in some parts while still lukewarm in others....not a good idea if you want to be certain to avoid food poisoning. Personally I prefer to defrost lasange portions first (doesn't take too long on the worktop in a coolish kitchen) and be sure that it's piping hot right through before eating.

I see what you mean Pink. I'll maybe just make bol sauce in batches then...or be more organised!0

I wouldnt have bothered with the carrier bag. I would take it out of the freezer, defrost and then bung in the oven0

i make lasagne then divvy it up into Tupperware - usually enough for one portion so one lasange will do 4 portions, chuck it in the freezer, then leave it till i want lasagne for tea. then i take it out on the morning and zap it in the microwave that evening or take it to work for lunch and zap it there.
never tried reheating it in the oven, but i think it would work as long as it was defrosted before hand.0 -
cool thanks.pleased that one portion of mince for lasgane is doing two meals and we wont get ill!lol love it0

Hi,
Bugs etc like food so it starts to deteriorate from the moment it is made so as long as you wrap it and freeze it in a reasonable time it will be good to go. That is what we do anyhow and we have not poisoned anyone...yet!0
