I have recieved an insulation grant that will cover the complete cost of insulating my home. The grants are from the big utility companies like british gas etc. The benefits of this are that basically will save quite a bit of money on my bills a year and increase value on your home. I was unaware such grants existed untill i read it on another forum. To qualify you have to be claiming beneifts (these are specified on several of the websites with info for this) if you are then you get a 100% grants. Im pretty sure if you are not on benefits you can get a grant of upto 75% for cavity wall and loft insulation. I applied for my grant online and took a few minutes, there are several sites im aware of i applied online at "libertyfreegrants" but i am aware of other sites which run this scheme, think they all link to the same utility companies neway, they are warmfront.co.uk and government-grants.co.uk also the energy saving trust website can be of great help in saving money. Or just google "free insulation grants"
Also in response to other threads iv seen, as far as i knw from researching this subject all those over 70 are entitled to free insulation regardless of benefits or income etc. And from a security point of view all these companies work for the majot utility companies anyway i think, so they come and did the work for me.
Hope this helped!

So no help for those who struggle on without claiming benefits then...0

Thanks this has been mentioned many times on mse. Now's a good a time as any to at least check if you can get one fuel prices are going only one way and thats unfortunately up so the more you can reduce this and still be snug at home with insulation the better it is for our wallets0

Good for you! I'll continue to work, pay increasingly larger fuel bills as well as paying my taxes so that you can have benefits so that you "will save quite a bit of money on my bills a year and increase value on your home".
Oh, and I'll have to pay the full cost of insulating my home.0 -
I think virtually everyone can get a shed load of money off of insulation under the various grant available.
It seems british gas have just realised that they can't suppy enough gas anymore... so they neet to cut consumption ASAP.
North sea gas is dwindling. DO what you can to cut you usage as prices are about to go vertical.Bankruptcy isn't the worst that can happen to you. The worst that can happen is your forced to live the rest of your life in abject poverty trying to repay the debts.0 -
I had someone out but - surprise, surprise - we "didn't qualify" for a grant towards insulating the loft, but they could do it for >£250. I forget the exact amount, because strangely, it was filed straight in the small, round filing cabinet that gets emptied once a week! I think we'll DIY it at that price :eek:They deem him their worst enemy who tells them the truth. -- Plato0

im not going to go into my specific details and beneifts as it is personal, however if you had looked at any of the sites you can see that "working tax credit" is there as well as "disability allowance" so please think before you comment, also there are a lot of single parent families out there who work full time but are still entitled to benefits, so please keep opinions like that to urself, this post is intended to help people save money, not for people to whine about working.
Also poppycat you bring up a good point that prices are going up, therefore getting your home insulated now is quite a smart idea.
And for those not on benefits or over 70 i think that there is a substancial discount available at the moment.0 -

I did. I applied. Someone came round.
Not in my case.
So get off your high horse. (And which company is it that you work for?)They deem him their worst enemy who tells them the truth. -- Plato0 -
well im not sure what happened in your case "strapped" as i dont know who you are or nethin to do with the condition of ur house. (not that i really care as you seem like one of those annoying people who will moan at watever i post)
The reason i mentioned the benefits is that other people were commenting and making it seem like a bad thing that some people (including myself) claim some sort of benefits. This wasnt a thread for people to tantrum about having to pay taxes, it was about helping people save money on their homes.
And all i can say is that any of the companies i have dealt with have been helpfull, the only reason i can think that you didnt get the grants is that you mis-led them when you first applied and when they realised thats when you didnt get it.0 -
It was the company who misled me. They stated that there was a discount available for people who claimed tax credits. What they SHOULD have said was "people who claim tax credits and earn less than £14k pa". But then, it was a way to get through my front door I guess
Now, don't you have a few other forums to do? :wave:They deem him their worst enemy who tells them the truth. -- Plato0 -
We got a 75% grant towards cavity wall insulation about three years ago, neither myself nor my partner are on benifits and we both (at the time) were earning over £14k, so I don't know why you're having problems.
Have you tried speaking to another company?0
