Paypal and Abbey disagreeing about refund

I am having the same problem. I went to the cash machine, only to be told to contact my card issuer. I called Abbey, and they told me I had insufficient funds in my account. This was impossible - I had only just been paid and I KNEW I had funds in the account. Or at least I thought I did!! After being placed on hold a number of times and a call lasting over 40 minutes, they tell me that a number of large purchases had been made thru PAYPAL just hours before. These transactions have totalled £1006.22. I was told there is nothing they can do and I would need to call their fraud department (open 9-5) I logged onto my PAYPAL account to find that I have limited access. 4 cases are open and are being looked into.
Today I have spoken to Abbey fraud department and spoke to a terribly RUDE man who was eating during the entire call and kept telling me to "hold on" with no explaination to what he was doing. He came back with - There's nothing we can do for you I'm afraid. I asked him what I should do now....? And he told me that it was up to me really, as he couldn't physically do anything for me apart send me out some forms to fill in and getting the money back was not guaranteed, and would take 3-4 weeks to investigate.
I have contacted paypal on 08707307191 and spoke to someone there and she has told me that I am 100% guaranteed a FULL refund of all transactions, but will take between 10-14 days.
I am left with an empty, overdrawn account with bills to pay.
I am now worried about the charges Abbey are going to incur - It seems from reading the previous posts here that Banks are going to do anything they can to not accept responsibility for them.
We'll see.
Well, well, well. Here I am....STILL waiting for something to happen. Firstly I was told 10-14 days, then I was told 5 days - and was advised I could lift the limitations from my paypal account so I could continue to use (as I have a small amount of funds in there which would have just about got me through for a few days) I call Paypal today to get an update....
Yes, Miss C. everything seems to be going fine, and the cases are nearly resloved. (Great!) Miss C, the cases will be closed and the sellers will be refunded. (REFUND? THE SELLERS?) WHAT?!?!
Yes, that's right...apparently as I lifted the limitations on my paypal account (As previously advised by a PAYPAL advisor!) It indicates that they can go ahead and refund the sellers and they will be contacted by email for the inconvenience? At this point, I think I lost it. He told me that "the system does not say that you have not made any calls to us prior to this call" This is all a load of rubbish.
I asked to speak to a manager - and he told me no. "What do you mean NO?" He told me that the manager is only gonna tell me the same thing, I explained that this was exactly the reason I wanted to speak to a manager - cos they're quite obviously a load of zoo animals operating phones. Anyway, Aparently then he looked at "ANOTHER PART OF THE SYSTEM??!!" and found that "oh yes, you have called, yes the transactions are unauthorised" HALLELUJAH!!!
Well, again - still don't know what's happening, I might get it back by /friday, might not. We'll See.0 -
Well, I eventually got the money back....Every penny. It took right up until early this month, but I did not give up...I continued to call Paypal...and continued to call. I had to take a few trips to my bank, but they eventually gave in and removed the charges....
If anyone is in this position still or this has just happened..... One piece of advice - DON'T GIVE UP!! It's your money, get it back.0
