High gloss kitchen

Hi I'm thinking of getting a black high gloss kitchen which my DP is very keen on but wondering just how practical an option this is. Won't they show every mark and food stain?? I really don't want to spend time forever wiping down the kitchen units! The one I liked especially was from Wickes. They also do another one, in Oak, which my gut instinct says would be far more practical. There is also a really nice vanilla gloss one ... what do you think? Any advice greatly appreciated!

I love the high gloss. It will look fab! I wasn't that brave and ended up with oak (DH looking at the long-term....he doesn't want to have to replace it in 10 yrs time when the gloss is out of fashion (in his opinion!!)). From what I know, they are very easy to clean - a quick wipe with a soapy sponge if they are dirty and a buff with a soft cloth. I did look into it myself. Got quoted Space Cream from MFI with the chunky handles and block wood worktop.......I was very tempted!! Having said that, I am pleased with my oak one. Just waiting for the granite as we speak. x0

I really like the gloss kitchen but would go for cream or white if i were getting one. I know they're lighter colours but would be easier to keep looking good than black I think. Darker colours seem to show smears more I think, I also think the lighter colours won't date as quickly as black.0

Another gloss kitchen fan here! We chose IKEA each time.
About to order our new one tomorrow, for www.theupsidedownhouse.9f.com
This will be white - had their black at our last place & really looked good!
Got their red one at the flat, here - again looks excellent!
As for cleaning, use spray on glass cleaner & polish with microfibre cloths, to reduce chance of scratching.
Wasn't over impressed with thge Wickes one, but for some reason IKEA discontinued the black, so it's limiting your choices.
Much easier to maintain than boring wood - that isn't really wood!!

I have a pale blue gloss which is lovely, but I can see smears in certain lights, if it is just wiped over with a damp cloth. I imagine black would be much worse!
My gripe is that the laminate has lifted wherever it is next to a heat source. Which is probably why B & Q discontinued it after only a few months!"Cheap", "Fast", "Right" -- pick two.0 -
I've had a few white gloss kitchens and I love the look of the black. I've had no problems with the white - yes, it shows spills, but then so do most kitchen doors! I've just seen the black in a friend's house and it is quite like glass in that it does show where you've wiped even unless you dry it off properly. So I could see swipe marks on the doors. You don't get that problem with white, but then, I'd polish up the black doors like I have to polish off our granite worktops.
We have oak here and yes, I admit, I don't really have to worry about it.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

Last year it was Beech, this year its high gloss black. This time next year I think you might regret the black. I would go for oak in a shaker style. Timeless. My farts hospitalize small children

We have a black high gloss and are forever cleaning it!! looks fab but wished I had gone for a lighter colour - you do need to use a micro cloth on them to get a great shine0 -
