hi
hope i've posted on correct board. Got new bed delivered 4 days ago (memory foam and springs) and i unwrapped it and left it to air for a few hours as advised. Four days later it still stinks. I've left windows open and me and OH have been sleeping in spare room because the smell is so bad. I knew that memory foam would smell a little at first but it's not getting any better. phoned stockist to let them know that i wasn't a happy bunny and have now been told to phone back in a couple of days if the smell is still there and they:mad: will take it from there. Was wondering if anyone out there had similar experience and if so what was the outcome
thanks in advance!

i found that it took about a week for that "memory foam pong" to go. I had to leave my bedroom window s open all day. That was 6 months ago, and there is no trace of smell now. its not nice though , is it ?0

hi
thanks for your reply
the smell is unbelievable. if fact i'm lucky that i've got a spare room and we've been sleeping in there since thurs.i phoned my sister who got a memory foam bed a couple of months ago and she said that she only had what she described as new bed smell and not an awful pong.if the smell hasn't died down a bit by tues. theyre going to get someone from silentnight to come and have a sniff!! i'm hoping that if it's still as bad they'll arrange to swap it and if that's the case i definately wont be getting another memory foam.i still cant believe that my bedroom windows have been open wide and the door closed for 4 days.i have to keep the door closed because the smell is making me feel sick constantly and that's with the door closed!0 -
The smell is caused by the fire retardant chemicals used in the foam. Sometimes the foam is used before the chemicals are 100% dry, and this is what causes the smell. The smell will go eventually in a well aired room. This problem is mainly associated with foam only mattresses, as mattresses with a combination of springs and foam allow air to circulate better. However the smell should never be overpowering, if I were you I'd ask for it to be exchanged.

Was it a vacuum packet mattress?
Some sellers will try and charge you return postage. If they do this then just tell them you will take the mattress to trading standards.0 -

My parents bought a similar mattress last year, it had a bit of a smell for a couple of days but that was it. Seems like yours is much worse. Hope you get it sorted:j Debt free since 31/01/08:j
