  • I watched last night's TV show and fell asleep half way through - it was really boring and seemed to me to be utterly ridiculous. Her programmes never used to be all about her, as this one is, they were about the cooking, which I think she did really well. In my eyes she has lost all credibility, but I was over visiting some friends this weekend and they were all saying how good it was that she was showing how to use bought in stuff - several had bought the book. A real shame.

I'm guessing that Delia's latest book will be bought by people who usually eat microwave meals during the week but want to 'cook' for a special occasion - eg dinner parties. I really don't think anyone will actually use her recipes for everyday cooking.

I learnt to cook by using Delia's books and it was such a treat to start watching the Christmas editions on TV and dreaming about making all the stuff and having a lovely time like she was clearly going to do with her family.. you could just tell that when the film crew finished they would all sit together and eat mince pies whilst singing Christmas carols! (ok I was young, thats what I thought it was like)

Now I feel sad that such a god like figure to me seems to have lost her credibility. I actually feel more look a real cook than her (in my own eyes if you see what I mean) because I really enjoy cooking from scratch.

There's nothing wrong whatsover if people want to follow her new book, its just that being from the old school of Delia I feel a bit let down :(

I feel the same way, I used to love her "proper" cookery programmes, but I can't watch this stuff!

My next week's Radio Times arrived today. The radio winning letter of the week was about Delia's programme - not complimentary.

I have to say, I didn't watch last night.

There were times in the first one - especially all the football stuff - which I thought were cringingly embarrassing. :o Couldn't face it again.

She's worryingly responding to the Nigella end of the market and most unfortunately when Jamie and others are heading towards a very make it yourself end of cookery. I have, more recently felt she was heading in this direction with some of her most recent books which have recipies with titles that list more than 3 ingredients (Marscapone with liver, loganberries and Dettol brulee:D ) which tend to mean an overcomplicated meal. It's often good to introduce new ingredients and indeed some in jars/cans too (anyone have an urge to preserve lemons?) but simplicity is the best thing in cooking.

All the back story is more about 'Celebrity' than anything else and her producer is obviously pushing on that end. However Delia is not skinny, orange, bleached, botoxed or implanted and she's known more for herself and what she's done than her husband. So not much of the standard fare for the tabloids I think.

I hope she ignores the advice she's been given and goes back to... well... cookery!

I could make it better myself at home. All I need is a small aubergine...

I moved to Liverpool for a better life.
And goodness, it's turned out to be better and busier!

Most of us on this forum love cooking and find following recipes easy because we have been taught one way or another by our mums, grans, cookery teachers etc. I think a lot of people on here forget that! But a huge number of the population cannot cook, can’t be bothered and do not have the confidence to even start! They survive on microwave meals, takeaways and eating out…… but opening a couple of jars, actually mixing the contents together and stirring them in a pan on top of a stove…….well that is cooking for them ……and not just heating through . I bet you any money that more people will try Delia’s latest recipes and buy her book than some of these other TV chefs who uses 55 ingredients just to produce one little dish, lovely to watch but they do not really encourage you to cook. By the way, when was the last time any of you actually used one of their recipes?....... all I seem to do now is follow recipes on this forum or in books bought second hand in charity shops because they work and I usually have all the ingredients!

I love cooking and having watched Delia's programme last night for the first time, I admit I found it boring…..but it is not aimed at me ….. and it is not aimed at the vast majority of people who come to this web site so it is no surprise that most people on here don't like it and are criticizing it..... . .

Please dont shoot me down in flames but I watched last weeks episode and enjoyed it very much. I have taped last night so will watch later. I have NO confidence in my cooking abillity at all. I can cook my own shepherds pie, chilli, spag bol and my slow cook beef stew and dumplings are yum , but I am not happy trying to prepare "classier" food IYKWIM. I have already done her potatoe wedge/spring onion/chees concoction(sp) and that was lovely .

I look forward to seeing future episodes with a view to getting ideas and maybe adapting them to what I can do .

If you have no confidence in your cooking, get one of Delia's "proper" cookbooks and you will soon learn how to do it.;)

No we will not stop criticizing. As the famous saying goes... "I may not agree with what you say, but I will defend to the last, your right to say it". We all have opinions and the right to express them;)
