I am so glad you have posted this. I was watching Delia last night thinking, how horrible it was. All those numerous jars she was opening to create one dish. That dish must have cost a fortune, having to buy crab & pesto and lord knows what else when it could be made cheaper and nicer at home.

She truly has lost the plot. Just plain weird.

I love how she was extolling the virtues of ready made breadcrumbs, then used a blender to chop the herbs. Hang on a minute, if your using a blender, why don't you whizz up a slice of stale bread in it before chopping the herbs? You won't even need to wash the blender inbetween chopping the two. I also hate how she has gone all "Nigella", showing us her mother and trying to prove how she has such a busy life.

Have to agree, Delia has completely lost the plot, but you must admit it's one of the funniest things the BBC has shown in years

God to say, I'm pretty disappointed with what I've been hearing.

I've merged this to the current Delia thread. Thanks.

I am trying to be fair now and thinking maybe by the end of the series it will have morphed into-"here is a real potato (gasps from audience) peel it ,and throw it in a pan with hot water",but I somehow doubt it. I will be watching it just for the comedy value. Delia what are you thinking of!!
  • This is the first time I have posted anything on here but I just had to say how good it is to see other people feel like I do about Delia. What IS going on here? At one time she would have made her own Pesto sauce and showed how easy it is. The programme seems to be more about how marvellous Delia's homelife is rather than what I call proper food. Sigh.

We recorded last night's programme and watched the first 5 minutes before deciding that it wasn't worth watching any further.

As someone who has got 3/4 raw mince ready to make a shepherd's pie for tonight (with REAL mash), Delia's concept just isn't for us - and I'd guess (without reading all the earlier posts on this subject) that most MSE Old-Stylers will feel the same.

However, if it convinces people who usually order in a take-away to cook better meals, then that's got to be good news.

I agree in principal polly what your saying. But having known people who order 3 or 4 takeaways a week, the point here is they don't want to learn and see the principal of cooking a hassle. This program and her book won't change this, they'll continue to order their takeaways or fast 5 minute in the microwave ready meals.

Delia just lost any credibility she had gained and is doing far more harm than good.

To my mind there is no difference between opening two jars and putting them together, as pricking holes in one packet and shoving it in the microwave. Yes it takes a little time to reduce tomatoes and garlic and basil to a nice thick consistency, but do that while you are boiling the pasta water/cooking the pasta. We were talking in the staff room earlier and I said to someone that buys all those jars of Ragu to let me have the empty jars and I could make that tomato garlic and basil sauce by the bucketload if they bought me the ingredients..

She is now clearly just sponsored by JS / M and S.
