  • Hi all - Does anyone know of any Chinese Supermarkets in or near Oxfordshire/Buckinghamshire area?

There are a few in Oxford - there's one in Headington, on Windmill Road, one in the town centre on Hythe Bridge Street, and one on Cowley Road, near the Carling Academy.
  • By the way, the Croydon Supermarket (Wing Yip, thanks Windowshopper) has a really nice restaurant next door/attached.
My eyes! The goggles do nothing!
  • I'd forgotten about the restaurant. Really a day just isn't long enough in Croydon with that and Ikea, and Makro.

just remembered, I got a HUGE bag of coconut milk powder*, for a really silly price, very cheap compared to the little cardboard packs you get in supermarkets
it can eventually go rancid at room temperature, so I've stored some in the freezer & the rest sealed in the fridge

    * if you haven't tried it, it's wonderful stuff, far more convenient & cheaper than cans of milk, you only use what you need at the time. & it's much nicer then those blocks of greasy coconut cream
only downside is that if you really like coconut, you'll find yourself like me, eating it by the spoon straight from the pack :o

Morning all - the Wing Yip people also have a website if you google it. There's also a huge chinese supermarket on the north circular near Harlesden. I can't remember what it's called though...can't miss it, it's got one of those chinese style roofs!!
I live in Wales now so I miss shopping there- I think there's a chinese supermarket down Penarth Road in Cardiff

I live in North Kent, Medway area and I can't find one either

My favourite topic - I love shopping at the Chinese supermarket!
I recall that previous person was talking about Oxfordshire - I know that there are a few small ones in Oxford itself, but I generally get my stuff from:
    www.waiyeehong.com

I did sometimes use to get stuff from Win Yip Online, but I think that this one a has a bit more choice, and I find it convenient to get to when I want to do a mega shop!

What I like about these places is that they also have loads of stuff in cans - so you can throw a stif-fry together very conveniently if you have nothing in the house after being on holiday or something!

There's an amazing international supermarket in Hyde Park, Leeds called Maumaniot (or something like that). It stocks all sorts of exotic foods including Middle Eastern, Asian, East-Asian, Greek, etc and a great range of organic and health foods. It was one of the cheapest places to get food from in Leeds (when I lived there) as long as you stuck to buying things in bulk and didn't buy typical british branded foods (they also sell things like Kellogs cornflakes, etxc). They were especially amazing for oils, soya sauce, tofu, very cheap noodles, dried fruit, spices, nuts and pulses.

I loved shopping there. I try and go every time I'm back in Leeds just to stock up :) My food bill was so much cheaper when I could shop there and in the Green Action Co-Op in the Student Union.
