My friend bought us one of those plates that come with a pen and we used it as a "guest book" type thing - she had it personalised with our names and our wedding date and we got all of our guests to write messages on it. It's a great keepsake and really unique! We love ours!

I dont think they're very expensive. Not sure where to get them from though.

Buy a gift token/voucher you can buy them off E-Bay usually for a few pounds less than they are actually worth.

What about a bottle of champagne/wine and a couple of lovely wine flutes or champage flutes in a basket

I've done this a couple of times and the bride and groom have always been really pleased. If you go to the big department stores you can buy the glassess individually, the ones I got were from House of Fraser, nice heavy glass, quite modern design, for £8 each. I struggle with wrapping baskets so I just bought a plain white gift box, laid them on a bed of white tissue, and scattered in some silver heart sequins. Then used wired white ribbon to tie it all up with a big bow. Even if I say so myself - it looked delightful.

  • If you have enough time and if you know them well enough or can make a few calls, build a photo album of the couple with photos of family and friends who can all right messages to them in it at the Reception.
Almost debt-free, but certainly even with the Banks!

Unless they've asked for champagne glasses then I would avoid them... Otherwise I bet you they will get about 8 pairs and none of them matching to add to the ones they already have more than likely...
Champagne however is a great idea! Tesco have some good offers as do Morrisons at the moment. some nice bottle and some chocs were advertised earlier today on TV - £15 for both and the champers should have been about £25 on its own... Might be making a little trip myself...

we had our wedding list with Debenhams in Oxford. They gave us a a £50 gift voucher for signing our list up with them. So we used it to buy ourselves a lovely decanter and whisky glass set and also got something very similar for my brother for his wedding present (he got married 6 weeks after us). It was all discounted and we only spent a few quid once we'd cashed in the voucher. Anyway they also had loads of champagne flutes in there which were discounted too.

We have a similar dilema as friends of ours are getting married soon and likewise didnt specify a wedding list. Its a bit cheeky but we have gone though what we were given for our wedding but have never used (most people didnt buy from our list in the end) and will give them something they will get more use out of. Have you got anything like that you could give, therefore its a free present.
  • When I got married many years ago we had some vouchers for a restaurant. It was about £25 worth and we had a lovely romantic night out together.....
