Will a Motorola V70 on Orange work in Pakistan? Or am I better using a Nokia 8310 on O2.
Also should I put plenty of top-up on before I go - how much does it cost to text? They're both PAYG sims.
Cheers.

Orange and O2 both work. However, you can call the network and confirm. I assume you are talking about using the UK sim/phone with UK number via international roaming which is painfully expensive.0

Have a look on the O2 and Orange websites they have details of roaming costs. It will be cheaper to buy a Sim in Pakistan. I have not been there, but I'm pretty sure it will be straight forward to buy a Sim there. Have a look at the GSM Associsation website under the Roaming section, it will list all the network operators in Pakistan.
Also chances are your Orange phone will be locked to Orange, so you won't be able to put in another Sim in it."An eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind" - Mahatma Gandhi0 -

if i were u i would take nokia (unlock it free, from this site, if its locked), buy sim card from over there and use that.
it would work out a lot cheaper and less hassle , than using a sim card from here.
sim cards and call charges, texting etc are quite cheap there now as there is a lot of competition.Nice to save.0 -

I would say that taking an unlocked phone and buying a PAYG chip while there would be a much cheaper option. There are two/three main companies Mobilink (jazz), Ufone and Paktel. Coverage is really good around major cities, then OK in provincial towns, and you will find coverage on most of the Great Trunk road system. There are two new networks which have recently come online Telnor and Warid, I dodn't know much about these.
More info on networks here... http://www.gsmworld.com/roaming/gsminfo/cou_pk.shtml
Using a Pakistani sim, calling the UK will cost about 25p/m, generally text messages within Pakistan are 1 rupee (less than 1p) and international texts are 3 rupees. This may not concern you but with the first two networks above the sim card and any credit left will expire 90 days from when you top-up, so you would have to top-up within 90 days to keep the sim alive!!
Where in Pakistan are you travelling to?Nearly debt free
