It's not... the swear filter is part of the site software. You can't even type a word in that has those arrangements of letters within it... like S!!!!horpe United Football Club lol.TOP MONEYSAVING TIP
Make your own Pot Noodles using a flower pot, sawdust and some old shoe laces. Pour in boiling water, stir then allow to stand for two minutes before taking one mouthful, and throwing away. Just like the real thing!0 -
I've been given the following seeds (not packets unfortunately);
sweetcorn
Sweet californian wonder peppers
mixed green lettuce leaves
lambs lettuce
red cherry tomato
spring onion
cucumber
salad mixed radishes
Which ones can I start off now? I have lots of mini newspaper pots (courtesy of a paper potter!) and I was going to start them off on the windowsills ... which ones will be ok to start now?
Thanks

To be honest, I wouldn't advise that you start any, apart from maybe a few of the peppers, if you have a sunny windowsill that can accommodate them and a greenhouse. Otherwise, I'd stick tight and follow the instructions on the packetIt can be really tempting to start everything now but you'll not get the results. It's a colder winter than has been the last few years, and there's not much wriggle room right now, unless you happen to have a grow lamp.

I entirely agree with silvercharming - none of them. There is no need to subject young plants to cold conditions and low light levels, which is what they would get if sowed now without a heated greenhouse.
They will catch up - promise!0 -
We are all anxious to get started with our seeds but the others are right, it's too early. What happens is that they might germinate quite quickly (in a warm place at least) and then you would need to !!!!! them out into containers that give them more space. You then finish up with dozen and dozens of seedlings and no where suitable to put them. There was a tip in the Times two weeks ago that it is OK to sow lobelia and snapdragon now but it sounds like you are a veg grower.0

I think its worth having a go with a couple of pepper seeds, they might work if you mock up a propagator out of something.
Peppers need a very long growing period and its worth starting them now if you can.
Keep some seed though in case it doesn't work so you can try again when light levels improve.
There are lots of people starting off spring onions now as well, in modules, I plan to start some off on a cold windowsill when it just stops being soooo cold!Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0 -
If you are really keen I would try some lambs lettuce. I find it tough as old boots0

You can adapt a clear plastic punnet with a lid for a mini propagator - e.g. a tomato punnet. Make sure you have some drainage holes at the bottom and a few air holes at the top, if the pre-made holes let the seed compost through then line with a bit of kitchen towel and if you have no lid use cling film. worth it for a couple of seeds if you want to experiment.Eat food.
