BarclayCard - Late payment charge!

in Credit cards
I use my Barclaycard Mastercard for purely online and telephone purchases. However, I have just seen my latest statement - and there is £20 late charge! I phoned them and asked them why - they said the payment was a day late.
I explained that the payments are usually on time, and this is the first time it has happened. The woman on the phone just did not want to listen to anything - so, I asked to cancel the cards (Gold Visa & Mastercard) and she did not even ask for a reason! I have asked for a supervisor to call back - but it did not happen!
I will be not be using them again in the future - can anyone suggest a good card to use for online purchases - where I can specify a credit limit and check transactions online. I am already an Amex user and seriously considering the Blue with 2% CB. However, it might not be usable everywhere...
Thanks

I would call back and ask to speak with a manager there and then. Explain your case to the manager and ask for the fee to be waivered.
You have nothing to lose but £20.00...0 -
how about Egg or First Direct?0

Sainsbury's Bank credit card accounts can bre accessed online, only takes a couple of days after online registration request.
Not sure if they're still offering 0% on purchases?0 -
Barclaycard are going to be hammered with people leaving soon with that old 0% deal from last year finishing in August.
It doesn't matter if the payment was a day late, you signed an agreement and didn't keep to the terms of it. So you can't blame them for the charge. The level of service does sound dodgy though.
I'd try Egg for the online aspect but if you're after a 0% deal then I think Sainsbury's Bank have one on purchases still.0 -
Mint have just come out with a 9 month 0% deal on BT and purchases and come be managed online.0

smartsaver - I did ask to speak to the manager/supervisor, 'she' asked me why? I explained, that I wanted to speak to someone about closing my account. She asked me to be more specific?!? I have the following services with Barclays: Personal & Business Banking, Home Insurance, Stock Broking Services, Endowment Policy and even my old mortgage was with them! I am a happy-clappy customer, who does not bother them too much, and contributes a lot to their coffers! - I am not going to let this go!!!
From general consensus - Egg, Sainsbury's and First Direct look good. I have been to their sites and none of them tell too much of what I want to know...
I have become quite used to the Barclaycard site, and the information provided i.e. statements, recent transactions etc. In addition, I buy stuff from around the world, and their currency conversion rates are not fantastic, but better than some of my other cards. From all your experience - can anyone tell me, if any of these cards will be able to offer most of these services?

If you were serious about closing the accounts, the best response IMHO was 'Which part of "closing my account" didn't you understand ? ':j The £2 CSC = £48 in carton£100 banked Mar 06V-Free : 4 weeks

Phone back and just ask to close your account. You'll get transferred to a special department (can't remember the name) who will offer you all sorts of perks to stay. You'll get your £20 back (especially if it's the first time it's happened).Amazon sellers club - member number 63.
January challange - sell 10 items. 0 down, 10 to go!0 -
Totally agree - you will get your £20.00 back if you pursue it. CC companies have been challenged on these high fees before and lost - even if it was your mistake - provided it is your first time with this card. We all make mistakes at times.0

I've just closed my Barclaycard account (the 0% ended) but...
I had a late payment charge added even though I was paying by direct debit!!
I kicked up a fuss - got £50 back in total.
Later on I found it had been marked against me on my credit file (I discovered this whilst checking my credit file for something else) so I then had to raise a Dispute with Experian to get it removed - which has now been done.
If you have had a late payment - it will go on your credit file even if it is not your fault, as happened to me. It's easy enough to get removed (if you can prove it was not your fault) - but I think Barclaycard had a blooming cheek!0
