That's what he wants to do, and we all know what software is required to do it but we're not allowed to reply with what he needs
Personally I can't see anyone who's paid good money for a legal dvd being taken to court for ripping it for personal use on a portable player - it's the same as ripping a cd, record/backup a programme of the tv - people openly post about it on here including Martin (Copy+), software like iTunes does it (including the copy protected cd's). All these are technically illegal but no company has yet to take anyone to court as they know the public see it as fair use and know that if they did the public would react badly.0 -

And the agency that'd act on any music publishers behalf in the UK would be the BPI and they've stated they never intend to prosecute and have even lobbied the Government to update the laws to allow it. I did ask the abuse team to clear up the contradiction that CD ripping can be talked about on the forum and yet the rules state that NOTHING illegal can be discussed. So far I've received no response (and that was months ago). I'm not saying it should be banned for discussion as well but maybe an exemption put into the rules otherwise as you've pointed out we're currently in a state of having complete double standards (even I can see that even though I'm a pedantic goody two shoes sometimes  )."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

I think you'll also find, at present, technically ripping CDs to an iPod is illegal, ridiculous but true, although a change is the law is due soon (if it hasn't already been passed). Makes us all crims, but obviously it would never stand up in a court of law, as the devices are sold legally in the first place.0

BPI have already said they won't prosecute (and they'd be the ones responsible to do it). The copyright laws haven't been amended yet but the IPPR have given their recommendations to the Government calling on it to be legalised and even the BPI themselves have asked the Government to legalise it. Slightly different attitude to the USA's RIAA who seem to actually want to make their laws even more draconian."She is quite the oddball.
