What mobile phone should I buy my son?

My son wants a new mobile phone on pay as you go. Must have a good sized memory because he wants to store loads of music on it, so also need good sound quality. Needs latest gadgets and gizmos whatever they are. Obviously not too expensive. Please could anyone recommend anything because I am out of my depth here. Thanks

It really depends how much you want to spend. If music is the highest priority then the sony-ericsson walkman series are best due to the walkman software on them. If you want a cheapish phone the w810i is still a good bet on payg, with expandable memory and a decent 2mp auto-focus camera. There are some newer walkman phones available such as the w880i but the cameras aren't as good. Nokia have some decent music phones but the cameras on them tend to be a bit poor.

The sony ericsson w580i is a popular phone and comes with a 512mb memory card free. Otherwise the Nokia 5310 is a pretty good phone, with a 2gb memory card free with it

W810i or W850i would be most cost effective choices. They both use the cheaper memorystick duo memory card and can be expanded to 4gb which is more than many which are restricted to 2gb (like the w580i).

All of the new Sony Ericssons are taking the m2 memory cards, and not the memory stick duo (they are roughly the same price to buy). Therefore, when you need an upgrade, you should be able to use the same memory card with the new Sony phone. Also, 2 gb should be big enough for him, it will generally save him around 400 songs.

I would recommend that you avoid the SE w580i, as it has a fault where the keys split.

Its a very nice phone, but the build quality is not very good.
