    I first read that as !!!!!!'s :)

I considered this. I was thinking that anything that moved away from a simple text file would perhaps limit the number of people who could open the file in a pain free manner. You're right though, in that almost anything will open rtf's so it's worth another look. I suppose the other option is for me to produce the thing in .doc .pdf .rtf and, if all else fails, plain text. Hm...

Edit: just seen your next post. Right! .rtf it is. Thanks :)

I'm sorry too, in that I failed completely to see how your answers could actually help me. If I read your replies wrong and they can help me then please by all means explain it to me - I have seriously dumb days just like everyone else.

You could zip the txt file which would cause it to be downloaded.

The hyperlink and right-click, save-as trick is probably the easiest.

If you were using .net or php you can set the header information in the response so that the user is forced to download the file rather than view it.

Yeah, I know that .zip is pretty much universal too - but it's one more "operation" for the end user to carry out in order to see the file. IYSWIM?

It's a simple text file and it should be simple just to download it - and let's face it - a text file really IS universal and simple. Harumph!

    Poxy internet!

    :)
