Hairdressers, should i go and complain?

My sister goes to a local hairdressers every so often but gets a dry cut as its £11, instead of a full blow dry, as she just does'nt see the point of paynig an extra £12 for washing and drying her hair which she could do herslef (i know they do it nice but if its not for a night out or anything its not always worth it). Anyhow, each time shes gone they take about 20 minutes and she always looks just as nice as a normal wet cut.
So today i went, i empited some money from penny/ten pence ar which i use for a treat and chrsitmas savings and off i went.
I got there at 10am, said i wanted a trim off the ends of the length and the layers neatening up.
Now i don't wear my glasses when i get my hair cut as they get in the way. Basically, she brushed out my hair and cut it straight accross. She didn't touch the layers and has left me with hair in a perfect straight line across my back - as i have wavy hair this looks dreadful! My layers are still in my hair but nothing done to them, and she has taken far too much off.
I was out of the shop by 5 past ten!! I really am awfully upset, but I hate the hairdressers and I always feel really intimidated. I was confused that it was so quick and went straight home.
But now i feel i should ring up and say I wasn't happy, i think i'd be too embarassed to go back in.
Am I overreacting? Did I just get what I paid for? I feel quite self concious about the way I look as I have bad acne and now i fell even worse, especially as I also just spent a had earned ten quid!

I would phone and say you're not very happy at all and would they please try to make it sit better?
Was it a junior who cut your hair?
Ask for someone else to trim it again.
This happens all over with hairdressers...don't feel embarrassed about going back, you'll be far from the only person who has ever had to do this. It's a shame you're been put in this position but you'll only get more annoyed/upset/depressed if you leave it and you have to live with a hair cut you hate.
The alternative is to go somewhere else to save having to complain to the first place, but that would cost you more money and if it were me (which it has been in the past) I would definately call them again.Herman - MP for all!0 -
I would definately complain, there's nothing worse than a bad hair cut, it ruins the whole look and makes ya feel miserable.
I hate going to the hairdressers myself because of a bad experience many years ago and know just how ya feel.
Any hairdresser worth their salt will definately ask you to come in for a reshape and be most apologetic, they don't want to lose custom or get a bad reputation.
Be strong, stay calm and firm and explain your not happy and want them to sort it out for you.
Good luck x and let us know how ya get onNobody can make you feel inferior, without your permission

This happened to me when I took my daughter to get her bob trimmed - she ended up with two completely different lengths on each side of her face.
I realised how bad it was and took her to a more expensive hairdresser locally and the second hairdresser suggested I complain - but by this stage I had no confidence that the original person was even capable of doing a decent job.
So - Yes I ended up paying twice but have never gone back to original salon- have always gone to the same place now and am very pleased with everything they do!
It is only worth going back if you had a junior do your hair and feel that someone else there is competant!"This site is addictive!"

I am OK ... a quick wax and polish does me
DW has not been to a hairdresser salon in about 15 years because of a bad experience ... a girl comes out to the house and does it for her. Go back in AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE and say that you are not happy with the cut and would like a bit of the original shape put back in. Being a fellow glasses wearer I always put them back on to check what has been done and on several occasions I have asked for a bit more to be taken off.
I think your big mistake was leaving the chair before you were happy, but definitely go back in, not agressively, just explain the situation and say that once you got home and washed it you are very disappointed because it is not what you asked for.
IvanI don't care about your first world problems; I have enough of my own!0 -
I agree with Ivan. My colleague had her hair cut and when she came back to work, we had to tell her that it was not even both sides. She went home and washed it but it had clearly been cut wrong. She went back a couple of days later which was her first opportunity and asked for another stylist to put it right, which they did.0

Finding a good mobile haridresser to come to your home every month or 6 weeks is definitely a good idea. When I lived at home with parents we must have had about 3 in my childhood. All are much cheaper, get to know you, and you're in the comfort of home. Having said that I've no idea how my mum found these people.
ps As a teenage boy it was always nice to eye up the hairdresser in the mirror as she's cutting away0 -
Thanks for all these replies.
So don't laugh... but i went back down about three hours after and loitered to see if the girl was still there cos I didn't want to go and complain whilst she was there!
Anyway, after 15 minutes of ridiculous covert operations I went in and asked to speak to the manager. I explained, with much stuttering, that i really felt I hadn't got my £'s worth and that the girl hadn't listened when I said what she should do to my hair.
She asked me how long it took and tried to say i should have stopped her half way and asked what she was doing. Well, as i don't wear my glasses when i have my hair cut and i'm totally blind as a bat, i couldn't have seen anyhow!
This went on and i said i wasn't happy, she was nice but i felt she was trying to get me out with an apology, but then i said look my sister comes here all the time and she doesn't have any problems and she's praised the service and so on. Anyway, to cut a long story short, she said would i like it cut again with a senior stylist there and then. I said no, as she'd taken a good few inches off already and I'd like my £'s back - which she gave me.
I'm sure it was a junior as she was really young (she came out of the back afetr i'd been in there for five minutes so my covert spying was a failure!).
Anyhoo, thanks for all the advice...now i'll wait a few weeks for it to grow and go somewhere else!!0 -
well done to you for being so brave, i'm made up that ya got a refund, try and find somewhere that comes highly recommended by lots of people next time and see what you think of their cuts styles etc, but i tend to agree with a home hairdresser, its so much nicer having it done in the privacy of your own home, I had a fabulous one that never failed to do a fantastic job, she was recommended by a friend whos hair was always amazingly done.
Unfortunately since i've moved its to far for her to travel now so i need to look for a new one myself, its not easy, anyone can cut hair, but it takes a real art to do a good job.
Good luck xxxNobody can make you feel inferior, without your permission

you should ring, save any embaressing problems face to face tell them you didnt get what you asked for, ask for a different hairdresser, or go in and complain when the person who did your hair isnt there. You could let me do it I did hairdressing at college, I do mine myself, haven't been to the hairdressers for years. If you mail me i can tell you how to cut some layers in it yourself, if your brave enough or you know anyone who will oblige!!!0

Melissa, pls tell me how to cut some layers in myself....cut b4 my last one, the girl had big thick hair loads of it, mines kinda fine and no body, she hacked at mine alrmingly with the razor, took too much off way too quick...after telling new hairdresser this story, (she also has fine staright hair, so was sympathetic) when I go for next cut to tidy up outgrown layers, she hardly touches it, and I swear the more I looked at it when I got home she must have only taken mm's off, and they layers were really not where i wanted them to be! Thought about going back, but just did not have the time...
I used to cut it a bit myself when I was a teenager, and the edgy look was ok at college, but prob not now.
