I purchased a coat before christmas in TK Maxx. Within 2 months the zip has gone and one of the fasteners have come off. I took the item back to my local store and the item was at a reduced price so i was advised to find my receipt which i can appreciate. I was unable to find my receipt and took the item back to the store again and was now told that without a receipt or tag there was nothing they could do. They no longer have any on the shop floor and i was not able to exchange for an item of a higher price and pay the difference. Is this correct???

My understanding is that 2 months is not a reasonable time for a coat to last, and that it should be classed as faulty goods. How did you pay for it? If you paid on card etc it will appear on your statement.
I would contact head office here:

Could you ring up and speak to a Manager?0

I dont think it is an issue with the goods being faulty, I think they need proof that you purchased the item from them.0 -
you need proof of purchase
did you pay by card? this can be proof of purchaseYes Your Dukeiness0 -
they seem to be willing to sort this out, as others have said have a look for credit card or bank statements that show the transaction.0

They have quite a good no quibble returns policy, 28 days with receipt and tags intact they don't eve want to know why you are bringing it back.
If you can find proof of purchase you will be fine.0 -
T K Maxx returns policy is currently
28 days with a reciept full refund
after 28 days or without reciept you get an SVC card (store credit card)
faulty goods are an exeption to this rule and you should get cash back without a reciept or money back after the 28 days with a reciept
After 6 months T K Maxx no longer holds responsibility for an item if it is faulty and will not do anything
Because of the way T K Maxx works, in having a very quick turn over of items of many different makes it is impossible to keep track of all items and all makes, therefore if an item is not recongnised it becomes impossible to return. Usually if the sales assistant doesnt recognise it they will ask their supervisor, who would then ask a floof manager as they usually know most items that have been in the store, they will then proceed to ring other stores for you. If they did not do this then you need to go back and ask for it
I would like to point out the above returns policy is only valid until the 3rd March when T K Maxx will be implicating a new much stricter policy, they will however be informing customers instore about this in the following weeks.
You will have 14 days to return with a reciept
No reciept no refund OR exchange, after 14 days no refund (though managers will be able to override this in special circumstances)
Faulty goods will remain the same but lack of tags and reciept will take longer to return and can still lead to you being refused.
Oh and T K Maxx DO ask why you are returning something, they have to as their refund slips require it and staff get in to trouble for not having a reason for return.0 -
As a customer service assistant at TKMaxx i am faced with many angry customers who feel the returns policy are not clear. Especially around Christmas time where there are new associates who may not be 100% clear on the policy.
So here it goes:- 14 days to refund or exchange with the original receipt, if you do not have the card you paid with balance can be put onto a store card
- At the moment there is an extension of the policy for Christmas. If items bought from the 16th Octobe,r the first 14 days are included where you can get a full refund, if you pass the 14 days you have until the 16th of January for exchanges or money refunded onto a store card
- Underwear is non refundable this includes, knickers, boxers/pants, socks, tights and men's pj bottoms. Bra's and women's pj sets are fine.
- Food is non refundable, this includes chocolates, tea, pasta, sauces etc.
- Beauty products are non refundable: including perfumes, creams, bath stuff etc.
- Swimwear is non refundable
- Make up non refundable.
- Earrings are non refundable.
Return to the store you first bought an item if it's a "high priced item" (£50+) this again should save you time rather than having people running around confirming the brand.
If you haven't got the receipt or are past the 14 you will unfortunately be turned away as we are told we are not allowed to do anything without a receipt. You will only be offered head offices number as they are the only ones who allow us to do returns without receipts or if the returns are past the 14 days.
Don't be alarmed if the person from customer services calls in a manager when you are returning. chances are they are not allowed to return anything over £29.99 without their permission.
You may be asked for your details if you are returning anything over £29.99. Please do not be offended, this is standard practice, TKMaxx do not pass on details to 3rd parties. You have your right to object too.

If you are concerned of the condition of buying an item because it has a defect, (a hole, scratches etc) please ask the person serving you to make note of the condition of the item when buying.

That's about it. I hope this helps. Please don't get angry at the customer service assistant, he/she is just following instructions and must follow this to keep their job. If you are going to get angry, get them to call a manager! They sometimes have authority to tweak rules in your favour!0 -
Obviously, in addition to the above, there are statutory rights relating to faulty goods, etc.0
