please, please could all of you guys sign this petition..
http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/lymphoedema/
this is a mainly unrecognised illness that is mainly found in women that have had a mastectomy (breast removal) through cancer, basically the lymph glands get removed, these are no bigger than a piece of cotton, they get cut, degrade, or removed and then it causes problems.
what the lmph glands do is pull all the ***** and poison out of your system and throw it into your liver/kidneys to be dispursed through ****/**** etc.
this illness can happen to anyone at any time through other means, an insect bite, a football injury or even hitting your hand with a hammer. don't be worried it is extreemly rare but a subject close to my heart.
it needs government finance to be managed properly and they just arn't seeing a problem at present, hopefully a petition might just give em a kick they need!
just a stat so you not need to wory about getting this, about 100,000 people in this country are effected, mainly cancer patients, that percentage from 60,000,000 are very slim.
please sign it your address will not be shown, every signature helps.

Hi John,
Thanks for bringing this to my attention, it sounds awful for all those suffering from it, their loved one too. Well, I've kicked off here by signing the petition and am just waiting for an e-mail to arrive so it can take it to the necessary next stage. A sort of confirmation I'd imagine. Let's hope the petition does well and prompts them to take notice and act accordingly!
Good luck John,

Hi John I had a mastectomy in August last year plus the removal of 20 lymph nodes and I do understand exactly what you mean It is a debilitating thing to have happen and I am in the middle of chemo followed by 4 weeks of radio therapy due in May
Hopefully your petion will bring some attention to it I have signed up myself as an interested party0 -
All the very best to you Jackie! I sincerely hope everything goes well for you, a young neighbour of ours also who is going through exactly the same as you. I'll send up prayers for you both and wish you all the very best of health for the future. Take great care and I hope you had a lovely day on Thursday!

John thanks for bringing this to my attention. I have a mild form of Lymphoedema after Breast Surgery. I am fortunate that it is just a nuisance to me but I know it can be very disabling particularly in the legs.0
-
As the instigator of the lymphoedema petition, I was surprised and delighted to find that it had been given a mention here. Thank you very much!
I would just like to add a little more to John's supportive words. Although it's been called 'breast cancer's dirty little secret', lymphoedema can affect anyone whose lymphatic system has been compromised by cancer treatment. It can also result from non-cancer surgery, an accident or you can simply be born with it.
It's poorly understood, little researched and often not recognised (in both senses of the word!) by the medical profession itself.
It's a lifelong condition that can be any, or all, of these: disabling, disfiguring, painful and embarassing. It should be tackled head-on, but isn't.
Thanks to everyone from this forum who taken the trouble to sign. It's much appreciated.0 -
Hi Bahons2,
Thanks for your thoughts and info added to John's & JackieO's and although quite a few people have signed the petition as a result of John's thread, it's sad that more haven't joined in. Having said that, these boards are very fast moving so maybe that has some bearing on it. At least now it's been put to the top again, so hopefully more good folk will add their 'voices' to help such an awful illness.
Threads such as this are wonderful ways of spreading the word and I'm so pleased John though of it all that time ago. Still a long time for the petition to grow though so good luck!
All best wishes.

Hi all just a quick update, I have finished my chemo, and will be starting the radio therapy on 19th May for four weeks .Its been a long haul since my diagnosis last July but at last I can see an end to hopefully the treatment. I have been so lucky with both my hospital and the wonderful care I have received from all the staff at both the Medway Maritime and the Maidstone oncology unit.My local district nurses have also been amazing, and although it's not been the best year of my life with their help I have got through it .I am now looking forward to regaining at least part of my life back and the support I have got from the folk on this site too has been terrific. It makes you evaluate whats important in life when cancer stikes, and I treasure every day that I have with my two smashing daughters and my seven gorgeous grandchildren .Things that used to get me riled I now just brush aside as not worth getting steamed up over I hope more folk sign the petition.0
