Also I'm not sure why the OP thinks he should get better customer care from a supermarket than a bus company, both customer care jobs.

Presumably because a supermarket has dozens of tills and is able to maintain high stocks of change in a secure environment. Conversely, a bus driver will carry a minimal amount of cash due to the risk of attack and will normally be unable to help with change. That's why many buses now no longer accept cash at all or state "exact fare only" which goes straight into a secure cashbox.

This must be common knowledge - are you just on a wind-up?
Can I help?

He's talking about customer care rather than levels of change.
• I work on the checkouts in Sainsbury's and we are really well drilled in customer care. In fact it ***s some customers off to be asked if they want help all the time, but it's definitely nicer than having someone rude and ignorant serving you. This guy sounds well out of order, and if you had complained you would have been taken seriously and he would have been spoken to. Sorry it happened to you, come to our store :D
• Yes, staff can fail in customer care at Sainsbury's, but what customers don't know is that they are probably on just above minimum wage, the Christmas bonus was cut by Justin King, staff are not paid for the first 3 days they go sick for the first 2 years, having introduced the Mystery Shopper target, there is constant monitoring of staff like a Police state, and no bonus is given that is not target based. Staff are watched constantly, not only by the official Mystery Shopper, but by staff undercover from other stores, and by their own colleagues called "observations". Gone are the good old days of bonuses, shares and the Christmas bonus as a thank you for all the hard work. - and staff do work very hard. There is currently a ban on overtime, a tightening of belts, not even sellotape, paper clips or pens can be ordered, yet there is an enormous staff turnover. Wonder why? There are not enough checkout staff - ever - and staff are constantly taken away from their jobs to man the checkouts. There is a culture of fear, stress, lack of communication, poor pay, general poor middle management and so lack of care for staff. Sainsbury's will never catch up with Tesco so I don't know why they even bother. All they are bothered about are the shareholders, that is why prices of goods are so high and why staff are tolerated at best as a necessary inconvenience.

What kind of job would you have where you weren't reviewed? Either by managers, peers or external business contacts-I know it happens to me, and ask for feedback so I can improve my skills. And performance related bonuses seem fair enough-a reward for success. Can't really see the problem here, Oldtimer, I'm afraid!
I don't work for Sainsburys, by the way, and never have done :)

There is a huge difference.

Such sonditions are extremely negative and really affect your job. We aren't talking review, more a system that is more akin to the gestapo and being encourage to tattle on your coworkers even when they aren't really in the wrong.
Nice to save.

Don't let it get you down, if he's having a c@c day, don't allow it to get you bent out of shape. Life's too short.
