I've just been to the flat I'm moving into tomorrow and it is filthy. The bathroom is probably the worst, the toilet seems like its never been cleaned (its black) as does the bath. If anyone has some tips for something to help I'd welcome them. I probably have about an hour in the flat before anyone else will be there so have some time to clean it up before the boxes arrive.

Hi I would buy plenty of bleach a bottle of stardrops and if the bath is really bad some biological washing powder put in the bath with plenty of hot water and leave for a couple of hours, should get the grime of the bath and get some of those sponge pads with a green scourer on, that's what I would use. Good luck with your new flat.
Best wishes

I would get the bathroom in to soak and then sort out a quick clean in the rest of the place. it will be hard work cleaning the rest of the space when it is full of boxes. If there are people there helping you won't be able to stop them doing that easily, The bathroom won't have as much stuff in it, so can be left until a bit later. Should be easier to do if it's been in soak. Maybe you could start on the walls or floor while the loo and basin are soaking,[SIZE=-1]"Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit. For the toilet get a spray bottle of CillitBang ( hate the adverts!!! ) you can use it on everything in the bathroom really - not very OS but very quick (couple of minutes!) and effective! It's the only non OS cleaning product in my house! It'll get rid of the limescale, the grime and pretty much everything! Ideal if you ask me!

Ive always been told by mum that cola & a denture tablet in the toilet kills a multitude of sins & it works, Lime scale - white vinigar on tissue, wrapped on the taps with food bag over helps it fall off - aka Kim & Agi!!
Bet these are all in the cleaning thread anyway!

I found that biological washing powder was really good for soaking eg dirty oven shelves etc and you can get a box of it for (I think) 60p in sainsbury basic or tesco value. I'd also say see if you can get a big roll of that blue paper they use in gyms and forecourts - our pound shop used to do it as do those shops that do car spares etc. If the place is really grim you'll want to throw away whatever you use to wipe and you'd spend a fortune on kitchen rolls which IMHO aren't up to tough cleaning anyway.
I'd also say think about use of the rooms. The bathroom and kitchen you'll need to use pretty quickly so it's worth focusing on them. But don't neglect the fact that you'll need somewhere to sleep so it's worth sorting the bedroom asap as well. If you've been working and cleaning all day it's horrible to have to start making a bed up in a dirty room at midnight. The instinct is always to sort the sitting room but in some ways it's probably the last room you need to do.
lots of luck with it.0 -
Its probably in the cleaning threads, but just in case - for a general-purpose cleaning spray, mix one part each of Stardrops, white vinegar and water in an old spray bottle. The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life.0
