Windows XP/2000, anyone?

XP Home (OEM) is usually about £50. Although being OEM you'd usually have to buy hardware with it but that could be a £2 case fan.

There is one point though, if your box is old enough to run ME will it run XP, W2K would probably be ok, but XP may be a prob. I have an old IBM that was Win98 se, it wouldn't run XP but runs w2k no probs

You can download XP anywhere.

But you need to buy a licence, you don't pay for the program just a licence to use it.

what is the spec of the PC?
if its old enough to have ME then it may not even run XP which why i suggested win2k.
it just might have enough min spec to install XP, but IME itll be painfully slow.
stick to win2k. itll be fine then.
