Any thoughts on making the tip more useable?

  • The more tips the better, but to make them more useable why not make the link direct to the site instead of to the forum where we have to trawl through to find a link. If people like to read comments first, then put a direct link at the top of the forum page.
  • switch to an RSS feed - it is the way forward, mark my words :)
  • Martin - You have already saved me over £2000 through various moneysaving tips. I think you do a fantastic job and the regular email is great - Its clearly set out and is easy to pick and choose the articles I want to read.

Keep up the good work all Moneysavers.

  • ::)Dear Martin, Just ignore the moaners, how can we have too many great tips. It takes only seconds to scan through your email to see what is of interest. I don't expect them all to be of great interest every week. After all I am a man and many of the tips are great for the ladies but not so great for us male misers.
So keep up the good work, and remember, you can't please all of the people all of the time. But you please the vast nmajority of us every week.

How can Martin be expected to know what each of us needs on an individual basis that is just daft ???
I think the tips are great the way they are if you dont find them useful then stop complaining and unsubscribe. :P

    Martin,
can i just admit that i am a self confessed addict to this site, i have saved a hell of a lot of money, and even though a lot of the posts are not relevant to me, there is always something that would be of interest to someone i know.

I do not think that there is too much information on the e-mails that you send out, the fact of the matter is, if you don't think that it's relevant to you THEN DON'T READ IT, that will save you time. ;)
  • Martin,

Like most of the others, I'm fine with the number of tips on your email, however I can see how some might not be.

As Tony H said a good way to cut down the info is to split it into several sub emails which people can subscribe to or not as they see fit. For instance The bargains and freebies are my thing, I'm not so interested in new bank accounts etc. so if there was a financial products email & a bargains / freebies email one might only subscribe to the latter.... (I wouldn't as it is nice to keep up with the other side...)

Broadly a first try at splitting them out might be:-

Financial products (banks, savings investments, cc's etc.),
    Household (insurance, phones, utilities etc.)
    Bargains \ freebies.

I can see this might be a big admin overhead to setup \ maintain, a possible way to gain some of the benefits of splitting out things with less overhead would be to clearly section 1 email with 3 sections each having the stories appropriate to it?

Just some thoughts, but hope they help.

    Luke

Most of the people whom have suggested that they are happy with the TIPS format have also said the quantity of TIPS was acceptable. Could it be that Martin wants to increase capacity?

If this is the case he has two options:

    1. Find out the maximum number of acceptable TIPS, this will obviously vary from person to person. More importanly though, there's only so much one man can do.

    2. Do the above with the intent of creating "opt in" TIPS and having people assist with creation / management of their catorgories. This will extend the capacity of TIPS produced each week and allow for better management of ongoing TIPS.

I am very happy with the TIPS as they are, but appreciate that capacity will increase as does the membership quota to the TIPS. I also appreciate that Martin has to find an acceptable way to manage this within his busy schedule. I say "Bring on the changes, long live MSE"
  • I like the emai. I don't believe there's too much in it and I'm happy to read through what's there. However I think it's good to consider whether the presentation of the email could be improved - without too much cost or effort eh!

I like the idea about different colours, but for someone who is colour blind it may be a problem. Also for people with visual impairment some colours work better than others (maybe that's already been considered by KG?)

I'd like something simple, such as the same key headings that are there every week, so we can get to know them, and we also get to know the sort of stuff that will be included under that section. In fact this already happens, ie Andrea's Freebies and Quick Chat Tips and you can zoom in or out depending on your preference. I think we just need a few more of these sort of generic headings.

I personally wouldn't like to get separate emails, or have stuff on separate pages.
