virgin mobile - dont go over your minutes or they rob you!

aarrgghh - I am gutted - I have a virgin deal giving me 300 txts and 200 minutes every month for £30, with £20 cashback. I normally keep under this, but this month have used my phone a bit more, as I was away on a course, so phoned my OH more than normal.
I seem to remember thinking that any minutes over the allowance was 10p each, so I was expecting my bill to be a tenner or maybe 20 quid over, but I just got it and I am £80 quid over my tariff - when I looked at my bill the mongest call I made was 30 mins, for this they have charged me 10.60, so about 35p a minute. Robbing swines!!!!
I wish this was made clear. Also I havent found a way to identify when my free minutes have run out, so it is very difficult to keep track.

If you have been robbed report it to the police.

It really is up to you to find out call costs, but 35p/min seems in line with most of the competition (except 3 which is well known for being cheaper than the rest).
  • Virgins rates are freely available for you to see at any time.
Don't mean to sound harsh, but ignorance is no excuse.

Easiest way to keep track of your minutes is to reset the call timer on your phone at the start of each billing period.

  • yeah I know, but I am still hacked off and I think it is tooooo expensive. I dont think my phone timer can be reset actually, but I will have a look. Normally I am pretty careful and have never had a big bill before, in over 10 years of having a contract phone!

    What phone have you got?

You can also call 789 and check how many minutes you have from time to time...

I also learnt this the same hard way you did. So maybe it's something with Virgin that makes us go over the plan too easily :)

I'm now with T-Mobile and almost always have 50% of my "allowance" left to spend.
  • Virgin now have a tariff which charges 15p to all networks (plus 5 mins free after 5 mins of paid calls) but you need to register, either by phone (789) or online.

This might save you grief next time.
