Advice for two mobiles with low use please

hello
can anyone give me advice on the following please, I haven't been able to find advice for low users on the board.
My wife and I each have a mobile, both with T+ (OK, I've seen the advice on the board, which is mainly why I'm here) I've just moved to 18866 for landline calls.

Current costs are:
2 X 9.99 per month for line rental
Average usage cost £6 for one phone (90% sms) and £3 for the other (10% sms)

Main use is for contacting our teenage son on his o2 PAYG (I got fed up with paying his ginormous bill each month, so now he pays for his own!)

I guess returning the two phones to T+ then buying two new PAYGs is best, but would appreciate any advice.

Thanks

  • Pay As You Go is probably best for you if you're a low user.

Two not very well known tariffs you may wish to consider along side the more well known ones

    Fresh mobile
All calls (any network) 15p a minute
    All texts 5p each
    No line rental
    Free SIM card available

    Resource Utilities
£4.70 per month line rental (inc VAT)
Daytime calls 8p +VAT per min
Evening calls 7p +VAT per min
Weekend calls 2.5p +VAT per min
Free SIM card and current phone unlock (by post or code)

  • Have a look at Forward Cellular deal - Nokia 3100 with 100 xnet mins a month £45 for the year. This is a cashback deal but ForwardCellular are excellent on this (as I and numerous others on here will testify).
You don't need to send your existing phones back, they're yours to do what you wish with. Sell them and bring this deal down further.

    Thanks chalktalk and allthatmularky.

I thought my existing phones belonged to T+, better news if they don't :)

have looked at this deal and as you say it looks very good.
presumably I have to cancel at the end of 12 months or I get the full charge for the next 12?
  • Bani - how's this for a quick reply - no the next 12 months will become payable monthly to T mobile. T mobile will ring you and try to get you to stay at month 11/12 - if they don't, remember to cancel - you'll get a cheaper deal elsewhere.
If you need to keep your numbers - you can port them to your new phone.
Forgot to mention in the first post - see in the three months (when you get a 100 free) how many texts you use, and then cancel if more economic to pay for each text.

thanks for the v prompt reply and help.
I'm now in contact with them to find out some more info (E.G. they don't say how much ongoing texts will be)
This is mainly driven by my son who now wants to swap from his o2 payg and also wants the camera option!!
This will complicate things as his bank account won't be able to handle the initial charges etc so I guess I go back to being his banker - thats life :)

I don't reall understand your comment on their texts and cancelling, what is it that I should cancel?

    Thanks
  • Bani - on the texts, you get 100 free for the first three months, then its £6 a month for the hundred. As you stated that one of the phones was 90% used for texts, it may be worth paying the £6 on this.
A text will cost 10p or so - if you send less than 60 a month, ring T mobile and cancel the £6 a month for 100 texts. You'll have to ring T mobile to cancel otherwise they will take the £6 in a DD.
    Hope this is clear.

Bani, no don't send the phones back. They are yours!

    Already sent them
I'm sure I had a letter from them saying send them back. I can't find it now but will keep looking. I've had them a while and can't remember the deal - I have to say I thought they were theirs. Any info gratefully received!

On a different topic, covered elsewhere on the site, their letter repeated their claim to have the cheapest gas and electricity!
