Its the way they talk to you and treat you that is crap
On the 23rd January ordered a Batfink hoodie from them after seeing it on hotukdeals.
We have two small children so today is the first day I have had to chase things up for a while in lots of areas.
Remembered I hadnt received the order so checked online.
order had been cancelled on 01st february!
I knew I hadnt received an e mail so called them up. apparently I cancelled it!!!
Now I never cancelled it and none else has access to my account. but the operator could not care less, only interested in getting me off the line, tough !!!! attitude.
I asked to speak to a manager as I was concerned that someone unknown could access my account and consequently you would assume my payment details.
She hung up on me!
I didnt swear, I didnt raise my voice, they obviously dont give a monkeys
I would steer well clear especially if you consider they are not covered by the Sale of Goods Act.
extremely shortsighted as I have spent £70+ with them in the last six weeks[STRIKE][/STRIKE]

Sorry to hear about your bad experience. I've always had good service from Play, although I've never had to ring them to be honest. I'd ring and make a complaint. You say they're not covered by the Sale of Goods Act? That seems really off  . I thought that would be a basic requirement of being allowed to trade. I'd ring and make a complaint. Unfortunately a few bad staff can cause problems for companies. I work in a call-centre environment and I've witnessed staff being rude to customers and it's apalling. Some people just have no telephone/communication skills unfortunately.0

Play.com are covered by the Sale of Goods Act 1979. Why do you think they are not?0

thats terrible the way you were treated
I am still awaiting an order I placed on 25th January and they cant do anything about this until 21 days has gone by and that wont be until 15th February as I ordered the choirboys 1st album for £1.99.The lady I spoke to was nice and friendly to me and told me to ring back after 21 days and they will ship out another replacement

The OP is quite right. They're not covered by the Sale of Goods Act (or Distance Selling regs for that matter) because they're UK laws and play isn't based in the UK so our laws have no juristiction there.
(play.com is based and operates from Jersey)"She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

Just phone up Play.com and they will happily tell you they are covered by the SOGA 1979. The are required by English Law to be, as its not an option otherwise all companies would be based somewhere else to avoid all liability!
Additionally, you would be covered by European Law (which also provides for consumer protection). If you look at the EU website it will give you all the details.
The fact that they are in based Jersey is just a wheeze to avoid paying VAT (i.e. instant 17.5% discount).0 -

They aren't covered by the SOGA because the law was never explicitly extended to Jersey (and it would have to be for it to cover a crown protectorate). What has "English Law" got to do with anywhere outside of the UK? EU law isn't relevant either because it isn't in the EU. Play themselves say they are only subject to the juristiction of Jersey law and there is no SOGA."She is quite the oddball. I've never had a problem personally either, but then I've only ever ordered DVDs, books etc. On one or two occasions when I've had a problem with those items (manufacturer put wrong DVD in case etc) they've sorted it no problem. Every single person I know personally who's ordered something bigger/more expensive (e.g. laptop) has had awful problems. My brother for example, it took more than a month to sort out, with him having to chase them up at every turn. His girlfriend also ordered a laptop from them, in her case she ended up with nothing and told tough they won't ever stock that model again (even though it was still on their site and showing as in stock! and at one point her order tracking showed it was picked and being packaged)."She is quite the oddball.
